BANGKOK - A chilling crime on the Prascha Chuen expressway as a 34-year-old man was shot dead at the wheel in front of his girlfriend after a road rage incident on December 23. The attack occurred after a Toyota Alphard reportedly cut in line at a toll booth before ambushing the victim's car and firing multiple shots, leading to an immediate police hunt. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and working to trace the suspect’s vehicle.

In the early hours, Police Lieutenant Colonel Noppadol Homsombat received reports of a shooting at the Si Rat Expressway toll booth entrance. Investigators found a Toyota Altis abandoned on the road, with Anuwat Yatniyom lifeless in the driver’s seat, his neck showing a gunshot wound. The victim’s girlfriend, Savitree, recounted how the incident unfolded as they approached home in Phetchakasem.

Savitree detailed the terrifying sequence, where the white Toyota Alphard aggressively tried to cut in at the toll, prompting her boyfriend to slow down to avoid a collision. The altercation escalated after passing through the toll, with the Alphard waiting, then attacking on the Prascha Chuen bridge, firing four times before fleeing towards Mo Chit.

Police have identified the suspect vehicle through CCTV and are coordinating efforts to track down the perpetrator swiftly. They emphasise the urgency of capturing those responsible in order to prevent further danger. The forensic teams continue to analyse evidence as the investigation intensifies.

With public concern rising, this incident highlights ongoing issues of road safety and violence. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward, underscoring their commitment to resolving the case efficiently.

There are 10 major toll roads in the Greater Bangkok area.

There are 80.000 officers.

Can't put one rider or officers in a traffic vehicle on each toll round the clock???

Things don't seem to add up for this one. Time will tell. Road rage ?  Not convinced 100% But maybe, I'm just being paranoid.

I call it small egos.  In the Philippines, people often honk their horns.

Whatever you call it, this is not the Philippines. In Thailand stay calm however provoked, and refrain from horn honking and flashing lights.

The same goes anywhere these days really you never know if they have a gun or knife so if you are cut off or impeded in any way it.s best to just keep calm , don't blast the horn  and let it ride. I know that it might be hard for some people to stay cool but it's better than getting bashed or killed.

Yesterday I was driving in Isan on a newly paved 2 lane highway. Slow driver in the left lane. Slow driver in the right late driving next to each other basically. I was behind in the right lane waiting patiently and nothing happening. The driver in the right would not move faster out of the way. So I flashed him a few times. Nothing. Flashed again and then he put is brakes on. This dead brain driver thinks he owns the road. I was a bit pissed by this stage. Flashed again and he moved over slowly.

It made me really angry and I drove on past. He was basically holding up all the traffic behind and unsure why he was playing this game.

In this situation do you flash the lights the same as me or what do you do.

I find it a windup driving on the roads here. Or maybe I have anger issues?

While it's true that the average working person needs to work by a clock, I wonder how much of the hurriedness is mostly mental illness or if most people could afford to slow down a bit.

Does everyone need to be so stressed out while driving or is it just collective insanity?

When rage occurs, common sense often takes a back seat...

Toyota Alphard is a 4+M. Baht car... not just the regular Somchai driving that. I hope the victim's family will get justice.

Some folks tend to go in a trans state of psychosis when they get behind the wheel. It would be nice if there was a way to weed these characters off the roads.

Yes, my Thai friend told me the same thing more than 25 years ago, and not just on the road, but sometimes it remains difficult to control yourself.
Today, there was another tour bus that kept driving in the right lane for miles after I had overtaken it on the left, and I wasn't the only one, I couldn't resist rolling down my window and pointing my thumb down.

Also refrain from giving the finger or yelling  F off when on motorbike.

I have developed a new appreciation for the guidance after watching  hundreds of unskilled farang scooter riders non  koh samui  make a menace of themselves.

What makes you think that there is no police presence on every toll road already?

The shooting did not happen at a toll booth with that video/photo facility, it happened on the road after the toll-collecting area.

I see many times daily, Motorway #7 the highway police have cars/pickups pulled over.

Have been pulled over myself, its against the law to not have a tailgate on a pickup !

No, it is not but loads do have to be secure so no tailgate on a loaded pickup bed would likely be an offence of carrying an insecure load.
