New surveillance measures for BTS

Featured Replies

Went to top up my Rabbit Card for the Skytrain yesterday and the woman in the booth asked for my passport.

WTF?  I've never been asked for it before on the BTS.  I gave her a laminated copy from my wallet.

Then, she rips off a piece of paper and hands it to me with a pen and asks for my email address.

I blew mytop.  What does this have to do with riding the skytrain?  I'm not trying to buy a gun or get a loan.

I asked for my cards and money and stormed off without a top up.  Is this the new normal?

I was visiting the bank yesterday so had my passport with me. I registered my old passport with BTS many years ago, but it expired last year. I topped up my BTS card and I also gave my new passport to the staff member to register it. She said, "Oh, it's not necessary now. BTS have just changed that requirement." I used my card without any problems.

You know,  that's an anti-money laundering measure.

Every trip, you can launder 30 or 40 B, even up to 107B (maximum fare).

Of course, to launder a couple of billions,  you need to do many trips. That's why there are so many people on the BTS.

I let my GF refill my Rabbit card, so I have no issue.

please don't blame, abuse or in any way be impolite to BTS staff, it's not their fault, they are simply doing their job. it's probably as difficult and inconvenient for them as it is for you. be kind.

Who knows what's going on.

If you already registered an old passport maybe that's enough. They have your full name linked to your card. We shall see. I'll use the BTS again soon & won't be taking my new passport with me.
