A Cambodian man, Lee Boonma, 46, traveled from Hua Hin to Pattaya seeking medical attention after suffering severe burns while working on a yacht. He sustained burns over approximately 80% of his body. Rescue teams and medics transported him to Pattaya City Hospital for urgent care upon his arrival.

The incident occurred on December 25th near Pattaya Bay. Rescue services were alerted by a fishing boat, Aura, reporting that Boonma, from Koh Kong, had been severely burned. The vessel was positioned in the middle of Pattaya Bay when help arrived to provide first aid and transfer him to shore.

Boonma's wife, Savitree Wong-ngern, recounted that he had delivered a yacht in Hua Hin on December 24th. Afterward, he took an intercity coach to Pattaya, intending to meet her. The burns were a result of a battery repair mishap under the yacht's hull, leading to sparks that ignited his clothing.

Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Boonma opted to travel across provinces to reach Pattaya, aiming to reunite with his wife for medical assistance. The specifics of the ignition cause remain uncertain, and further details are pending his recovery and ability to communicate.

Authorities and his wife await a deeper understanding of the incident, which will be possible once Boonma's health stabilizes. The incident highlights the risks associated with maritime repair tasks and the need for safety measures, reported Khaosod.

Key Takearies

  • Boonma sustained burns over 80% of his body in a yacht accident.
  • He traveled by coach for treatment, reaching Pattaya from Hua Hin.
  • The incident's exact cause is under investigation, pending his recovery.

They won't have been 3rd degree burns if he was able to travel by bus.  If he went the full 'Freddy Krueger' an ambulance would have been required.

Strange story , he must have been in agony.

You have no idea. Some  locals will wait until they have gangrene before they seek help with wound infections. The man most likely realized that seeking treatment in Hua Hin where he had no family support would  have been difficult. In Pattaya, where his wife is, he can rely on her much easier.

If the boat is in Pattaya bay…….how far out is it that he decided it would be quicker to swim back to Hua Hin to catch a bus?

If he's Cambodian how could he receive medical attention in Thailand unless he's paying for it.. My wifes ID is registered in Bangkok so she must go from Pattaya to Bangkok to visit a rhuematoid specialist at the local government hospital.

My Mrs is registered in Korat but seems able to make use of the 35 baht scheme here in Pattaya at a Government hospital.
