A 33-year-old man died from a gunshot wound after an apparent accidental discharge inside his home in Phuket, shortly after a verbal dispute with a relative. The incident occurred on the evening of 28 December, with the victim later pronounced dead after being transported to hospital, according to police.

Police from Chalong Police Station were notified at around 5.00pm on 28 December after Chalong Hospital reported that a man had been shot and had died during transfer for treatment. Officers, led by investigators and local patrol units, attended the hospital’s emergency department to confirm the death and begin inquiries. The victim was identified as Mr Sakdidet, aged 33, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest.

According to initial statements, the incident followed a verbal argument between the deceased and his nephew, Mr Charoen. At the time, the nephew had been sitting with friends at a neighbouring house. After the disagreement, Mr Sakdidet ran back into his own home, passing his father, Mr Thongsuk and his brother-in-law, Mr Wisit, who were seated outside.

Mr Thongsuk told police that he later heard sounds of items being moved inside a storage room in the house. Approximately two minutes later, a single gunshot was heard. Mr Sakdidet then emerged from the room, embraced his father, and said that the gun had accidentally discharged and struck him.

In a state of panic, relatives and friends transported the injured man to Chalong Hospital on a motorcycle. Medical staff attempted to resuscitate him by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation for around 30 minutes. Doctors later confirmed that he had died before or during arrival at the hospital.

Investigators and forensic doctors conducted an examination, while officers from the Phuket Provincial Forensic Science Unit collected gunshot residue from the body. The body was subsequently transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.

Khoasod reported that police also inspected the scene and seized a homemade .38 calibre handgun, along with one spent cartridge case found inside the weapon. The firearm was taken as evidence, and witnesses present at the scene were tested for gunshot residue as part of the legal process. Family members stated they did not dispute the cause of death. Authorities will continue to review forensic findings and witness statements to determine whether any legal action is required.

There's a very safe way to prevent an accidental discharge of a weapon, and that is don't hold it in your hands to begin with and point it at somebody, much less a family member.

Murder she wrote.
