Two people were killed and four others injured when a car driver lost control and crashed into a pickup truck at a U-turn near a roadside market in Tha Sae district, Chumphon province, on 31 December 2568. The collision occurred at about 17.00 and caused an immediate fatality at the scene and another later at hospital, prompting an emergency response from police and rescue teams.

Police from Saphli Police Station said the crash happened at the U-turn in front of the Por Ta Hin Chang market, Tambon Saphli, as traffic was heading towards Bangkok. A Honda car, blue, registration from Bangkok, struck a black Toyota pickup truck, registration from Surat Thani, which was parked on the shoulder of the northbound carriageway.

At the scene, four people were found injured, including one critically, two with moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. A woman standing at the rear of the pickup truck was killed instantly after being crushed by the impact. The critically injured casualty later died at Tha Sae Hospital, bringing the total death toll to two.

Rescue teams from Tha Sae Hospital, Hong Charoen Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and Saphli Subdistrict Administrative Organisation used cutting and spreading equipment to free the injured. All casualties were transported urgently to nearby hospitals for treatment as authorities worked to secure the area.

Witnesses told police that the Honda had been travelling from the southern route towards Bangkok before losing control near the U-turn. The exact cause of the crash had not been determined at the time of reporting, and officers said further investigation was required.

Police from Saphli Police Station collected evidence at the scene and interviewed witnesses to support legal proceedings. Traffic was managed while debris was cleared to restore normal road conditions in the area.

The incident occurred during the New Year travel period, when traffic volumes are high and accident risks increase, particularly for drivers unfamiliar with local routes. Police issued a reminder to motorists to reduce speed, observe U-turns and junctions carefully, and exercise heightened caution during holiday travel.

Daily News reported that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the loss of control and to determine any further legal action. Authorities urged road users to prioritise safety to prevent further tragedies.
