NATO is finished if Trump takes Greenland

Based on the replies so far it seems like the MAGA Brigade is out in force today, all of this despite a year of campaign promises to end American adventurism.

It seems like Trump is really getting off on this foreign invasion stuff. I know Little Petie sure is. I believe Venezuela was the 5th or sixth nation that he's bombed or invaded so far, in just one short year. You wonder where all this is going to lead and you wonder if America is going to engage in Trump style colonialism.

No doubt Trump will go down in history as the War President. One can only hope eventually he will be tried for war crimes, while he is still alive.

Republican Rep. Don Bacon, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, has urged the administration to “stop the stupid ‘we want Greenland BS’” and called on other Republicans to “universally oppose” any military action toward Greenland. “This is appalling. Greenland is a NATO ally. We have a base on Greenland. We could put four or five bases on Greenland; they wouldn’t mind that,” Bacon told CNN’s Tapper on “The Lead” on Tuesday.

Referring to Denmark, Bacon added, “They are a proven ally, so the way we are treating them is really demeaning, and it has no upside.”

Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, the co-chairs of the bipartisan Senate NATO Observer Group, in a statement Tuesday reaffirmed the United States’ long-standing partnership with Denmark, an ally they said has “earned our unwavering respect.” They also highlighted how Denmark is “significantly increasing its defense spending and remains a critical partner in Arctic security.”

“Any suggestion that our nation would subject a fellow NATO ally to coercion or external pressure undermines the very principles of self-determination that our Alliance exists to defend,” the senators said.

Dissolution of NATO would be a nice side effect of acquiring Greenland.

  • Good. It's a massive waste of time anyway. Ditch it.

An end to the US military presence in Europe would be seen by many as a positive development.

Trump claims the USA needs Greenland for reasons of 'defence' ?

How come ? His Mate Putin in Russia would be one of the nearest possible threats. Which Country does he fear so ?

It seems to be a pretext as usual, for Trump's imperial greed.

Trump is now behaving in true MEGALOMANIAC mode - comparisons with Hitler come to mind !

Disgusting Man - his end can't come soon enough !

Stand up USA !!

I wonder if he will take the Chagos islands after Lammy has given them away.

That would be most amusing. 😆

Who said anything about acquiring? If Team Trump decides to take it as per our national security interests, who has the military capability to stop it?

(per recent comments of Dep. Chief of Staff Miller)

Typical attitude of the present Americans. So,time to ditch tem, develop our own EU medicines, weaponry, entertainment and software. Do not buy any US made products anymore. Pay in Euro's, no longer in US$, and dump all US treasury notes.

...so all this Trump weirdness is the same 'outburst' exercise as every other final gasp and flailing around by the sunset of every empire - Rome, British, Nazi, Mongolian, French, Austo-Hungrarian, etc. They all win a short-term victory in their final glories, but then collapse into themselves. So unless the USA is going to nuke the rest of the world before it fizzles slowly into obscurity - to what end - this is the period we are living in right now. The year 2100 will be a very different scene of main players, I'd bet on it. The USA will still be there (abscent of a nuclear war), but more like what Britain or Germany is today. Not a major player.

Finally Europe gets it. I took long enough. Let's hope it is not too late for Europe to do its own thing.

European wusses should welcome Greenland becoming the 51st state. It would bring massah USA closer to them in nautical miles.

Greenland is not geographically in Europe, as it is part of the North American continent. However, politically, it is considered part of Europe due to its association with Denmark and its status as an Overseas Country and Territory of the European Union. Thus, while it lies geographically in North America, it has significant political ties to Europe. Additionally, Greenland is often classified as a transcontinental country.

Wasn't NATO the US's idea originally. To counter Russia. So maybe Russia is no longer a threat?

That's what Trump thinks. Trump's under the illusion that he and Putin are besties.
