Replacing fluorescent with LED. Live..

Featured Replies

Yesterday I decided to change a circular fluorescent to a brighter LED unit.

We have a spare ground floor bedroom which I have seconded as my sort of storeroom for my bits and pieces.

It needs to be a bit brighter so I can actually find stuff. ( Can't find the tiny box of rubber coated screws used to repair punctures)

I have turned of each breaker in turn and the light remains on. So I turned of "every" circuit using the main switches and the light is still on!!☹️WTF.

Now plucking up the courage to change the lamp live. When the sun has risen sufficiently to warm my bones🦎🐍

Oops. You really ought to trace where the wiring goes, that aint safe!

I avoid working live at all costs. Even just turning off the light switch makes you safer, provided the switch is in the live of course!

Wear nice dry (new) Marigolds (rubber gloves) and your rubber flip-flops.

Cheers I've got some of those black "rubber" food worker gloves. But I'm not about to touch any copper. If I can help it. My trusty illuminated screwdriver might tell me what is going on.

As for tracing the wires that is a level of effort above my current pay grade. I'd probably have to disconnect the house first as something in there will be live.

Seems like the live wire is coming in from the other side of the breaker box, perhaps tracing from the meter to the breaker box for a tangent connection.
