Ridiculous. So it would seem the black market and crimilisation is preferable to regulation. Idiots.

  • At least it will take the stench off the streets and out of the bars again

Ignore at your peril. Once illegal cops can shake down anyone, any time and test you as well. If on long stay that's in jeopardy...being arrested.

But smoking weed as a grown ass adult so worth it

I only consume at home on my patio here in Thailand, the days of consuming outside bars is long gone. I also only consume 2 small spliffs each day in the evening whilst i listen to rock music as the music just sounds so much better, its my life.......😁

No prizes for guessing why Thailand cannot pursue the same effective and legal controls on recreational marijuana use as Amsterdam.

As usual, I think the issue is enforcement of existing laws. I think legalization and regulation is the way to go (but not in the name of promoting monopolies.) However, having traveled to the tourist areas, the issue of open smoking of pot or cigarettes with disregard for others is definitely a problem. Most tourists have no idea that it is illegal to smoke in public ( any substance.) This is somewhat understandable as this law is rarely, if ever enforced. Enforcement of this law would go a long way to changing the negative adiitude surrounding marijuana legalization. Just a thought.

I don't give one flying f ck about whether you're gonna have a laugh about my opinion! What I've stated are facts, whether you can get that through your thick skull doesn't change the fact. I've seen numerous alcoholics in my life and every single one of them is pretty much useless now. But hey keep your hear in the sand. No skin off my nose!

It's a new industry, and one that the old school billionaire Thai's are not familiar with. They probably have the idea that a lot of people will turn to cannabis in the future for a higher high, which is more easy on the body, and at a cheaper price.

Rather than entering the market and diversifying their investments, they are most likely using their influence to kill it off.

Instead of jumping on the opportunity and use their riches to farm cannabis and make even more money....

The naked truth is that most people have no idea what cannabis is and does and thanks to decades of anti-drug campaigns they think it's the devil, while conveniently getting their drink on. Fortunately the dinosaurs will eventually be gone and replaced by younger generations who'll hopefully see it differently.

You seem really, really upset. Maybe you need a stiff drink.

No argument from me, but the dinosaurs are the here and now, and wield a lot of influence and power.

You have to laugh at their stance when they are anti cannabis, but please come to Thailand and drink alcohol and take a Thai prostitute home for the night. 😂

Well, you seem really incapable of grasping reality, but hey, no skin off my nose.

Yeah, their days are numbered, though.

Apart from making you tetchy and judgemental on an anonymous internet forum, how exactly are the behaviours of these "dinosaurs" affecting you personally?

Again, you clearly don't have the mental capacity to be having this conversation in the first place, if you have to ask that question, since the answer is soooo obvious, too. I tried to reason with you, but all that comes back is verbal diarrhea. So, I'm done with you because it's clearly a massive waste of time.

OK, I guess you have Ornithoscelidaphobia and either you don't know it or you're ashamed to admit it.

No biggie, at least it's not Coulrophobia which is good as you're doing quite well making a clown of yourself.

The point I am making is, unless the Thai elite, with business interests in beverage, move into the cannabis industry, they will see cannabis as competition to their product, thus, a threat to their profits. It has nothing to do with their ethical or moral or health stance on cannabis. It's simply about the money for them.

I take your point that the next generation may see the financial benefits in investing in cannabis, but being from the elite, they have never considered and agricultural product to be worthy of investment. Farming has always been for the rural poor, in their view.

Interesting times ahead, with lobbying and back room power plays, especially at election time. A lot of competing vested interests at play.

Why would they want to send cannabis back into the criminal world? Should make everyone think very carefully. Who benefits?

I don't, and it's in abundance in Thailand. 🙂

So you prefer to have more dispensaries than 7-11's in the streets of Thailand for all children to see and smell? Unbelievable irresponsible in my opinion. What kind of parent are you?

What would you do if you lived in the USA in one of the states where recreational use is legal? Or Amsterdam? Or Australia where there is a fine line between legalised medical and recreational use? Why is Thailand the only country where irresponsibility is the main association with recreational or medical use? I don't know why half the farangs commenting on here ever moved to Thailand. They'd be just as happy back in the old country with all its laws and restrictions.

I do, however, my main complaint was people smoking ganja in public, it really is a pungent and objectionable stench.

It's illegal to smoke in public. Surely it's up to police to apply the law to those abusing regulations rather than applying a ban to everybody.
