Two Myanmar nationals, a married couple, were killed instantly after their motorcycle was sideswiped and crushed by an 18-wheel lorry in a hit-and-run incident in Sadao district, Songkhla province, on Thursday, 15 January 2026. The crash occurred on Kanchanawanit Road, causing immediate fatalities at the scene and prompting a police investigation to track down the fleeing driver.

Police from Sadao Police Station were alerted to the crash at approximately 16:00 on 15 January 2026. Investigators and municipal rescue workers were dispatched to the scene near the Sri Pracha Health Centre in Moo 2, Samnak Kham subdistrict, where they found two bodies lying in the roadway in the outbound lane towards Sadao district.

The victims were identified as Mr Min, aged 39 and Ms Thu, aged 39, both Myanmar nationals and husband and wife. Mr Min worked at a plastic factory, while Ms Thu was employed at a nearby factory close to the crash site. The couple had taken the day off work and were travelling by motorcycle to visit a market in Sadao town when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the couple were riding their motorcycle normally in the left-hand lane when a tractor-trailer lorry travelling in the right-hand lane suddenly changed lanes without warning. The abrupt manoeuvre caused the lorry to collide with the motorcycle, forcing it to topple and throwing both riders beneath the vehicle’s wheels.

Both victims were struck by the rear wheels of the lorry, sustaining catastrophic head injuries that resulted in death at the scene. The lorry driver did not stop to offer assistance and instead accelerated away from the scene, fleeing in the direction of Sadao district.

Rescue personnel covered the bodies to shield bystanders from the graphic scene, while relatives and co-workers who arrived later were visibly distressed, with some collapsing and requiring first aid from emergency responders. The bodies were subsequently transported to Padang Besar Hospital examinations in accordance with standard procedures.

Police investigators from Sadao Police Station conducted an initial examination of the scene and began collecting physical evidence. Officers have ordered checks of CCTV footage along the suspected escape route in an effort to identify and locate the lorry and its driver.

Naewna reported that authorities stated that the suspect will face charges including reckless driving causing death and hit-and-run once apprehended. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to trace the vehicle involved and gather additional evidence.
