Thank you couchpotato very much appreciated :)

This is the correct information. Just to add, dont get your medical certificate until after you have the appointment date. They are only valid for 30 days and will have expired by the time you get an appointment. By the way a medical certificate is only 100 or 150 baht from one of the small clinics on Pataya Tai opposite Friendship supermarket.

Topic is usually covered in the motor forum. Generally: Passport with Non O visa and/or one year extension (copies). Old license. Proof of address ("CoR"). Likely from immigration in your case. valid

  • They have always accepted one original certificate of residence and one copy from me. At the immigration office they may try to persuade you to get 2 certificates @ 300 Baht each.

I just renewed my 5 year dl in December. As I live in Pattaya, the normal place to go is the Banglamung DLT (off Hwy 36). Was told (by agent) the wait time for que was about 2 months if I wanted to wa

Have you (or others) noticed that booking an appointment for the renewal at LTD Chatujak seems to be disabled? I needed to make a booking at LTD in Phra Kanong - next closest place it seemed (for central Bangkok). Is it no longer possible to renew at Chatujak?

"Bang Pu Drivers Licence Office" (Google maps) is a better and quieter alternative to Chatuchak or phrakanong offices.

My 5 year Thai car and motorbike licence expires mid March.

I renew in Baan Nonsung ,Udon Thani and have only ever had to do the colour test, brake test and the 2 sticks thing.

They have always neaded my U.K licence along with the Thai licences to renew.

However my U.K licence expires in June.

Will they only issue my renewed licence until my U.K licence expires or will I get the full 5 years.

I have a Non O based on retirement.

You should not need your UK license at all. Once you have "converted" you are on a Thai license.

Correct..UK or other country licences are not necessary, not required and are never asked for once you are on a Thai licence.

Renewing a 5 year license on an annual non-o support thai wife extension, do you get a 5 or a 2 year (as reported last year)?

  1. Wasn't that 2 year story relating to one DLT in particular?

I'm not sure there was clarity on was it one office or nationwide, hence my query.

Is there any benefit of using an agent to make the appointment and assist generally with the renewal? There are many adverts for such services. I would exclude the obvious 'scam' ones that don't require you to attend the centre or do any tests.

I used a Jomtien based agent recently for a first license and as others have mentioned did not go for the option of a long wait for the Pattaya office, instead being taken to Chonburi main office, about an hours drive away. Big benefit IMO as the office was bedlam and it would not have been easy to make it throught the multi-stage process without their guidance.

A mate had used the same agency for a 5 year renewal just a week or two before me and was taken to Rayong and was happy with their services, although I don't know how easy it would have been in that office compared to the bedlam I witnessed.

Hi

For renewing 5 year car DL at Phra Khanong (Bangkok) I just noticed they changed the requirement for "Certificate of Residence" if issued by Embassy 1 year valid if issued by immigration 30 days valid....is this correct?

I asked because they always make changes on website or at the desk (before the COR doc. issued by immigration was also valid for 1 year.)

Regards.

The med cert changed over 5 years ago, has it changed again? Just pointing out that on e learning website it lists documentation required for renewal of 2 to a five year licence, 5 to 5 year licence and doesn't mention the requirement for the med cert for 5 to 5. I have always taken a med cert with me.

Yes, I found out the hard way. They (DLT) have a standardized form - not sure when it was introduced but sometime within last 5 years (since I last renewed). So you need to go to a med clinic that has the latest form. The one above looks like the one I got from a clinic - but only after the one from my hospital was rejected by DLT in Bangkok. So as others have said, yes, you need this standardized form and also having passed the online video (within 6 months of your appointment for license renewal). BTW - even though booking seems to be essential everywhere (except Chatujak??) you will still need to line up for an hour or more to get our documents checked. The booking time means very little. Expect up to a full day of your time to get this done in busy locations.
