US embassy angers Danish veterans by removing flags

Danish veterans on Wednesday criticised the US embassy in Copenhagen for removing national flags put up in front of the mission to honour Danish soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

The embassy later backtracked, and a US State Department spokesperson told AFP that "until an outlet reached out, we were unaware of why the flags were placed in planters outside the Embassy".

Considering one of the prime functions of an Embassy is to function as the "eyes and ears" in a foreign capital, it does rather seem that the US Embassy in Copenhagen is, at least in this function, pretty ineffective.

Maybe they thought the number 44 was purely coincidental?
