FLIP-FLOPS: And 2-Pronged Plugs. Any Connection???

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Such a riddle, there never was.

Have you ever stopped to wonder:

Why do people around here swear by flip-flops?

We seldom see them without them.

Is it for convenience?

Or, do people here wear flip-flops for protection…!!!

My guess is the latter.

But, can you guess why?

I have lived in Asia, continuously, for over 45 years.

And, I have finally come upon the answer to this riddle.

Someday, this will be a bygone thing.

No longer will we be tickled to death,...

When least expected.

Best regards,

Gamma

Important Note: This Topic is totally unrelated to any concerns regarding single-prong plugs, nor their sockets.

GG reminds me of a male version of "Tante Danielle". with a dash of benevolence. It would be a very dull world if we were all the same.

Flip-flops are easy to shed and resume when leaving at the threshold of houses and temples in Asia, unlike lace-up shoes. It's regarded as good manners,

With his 45 years in Asia, I suspect the OP knew this already.

Yes.

But, my single-prong plug is not in the best of shape, these days, after much abuse.

Whoever said Nature abhors a vacuum never tried modern devices.

It is perfectly FINE to shed your flip-flops at the door the temple, provided:

The electrical wiring in the temple is GROUNDED, and using 3-prong plugs.

Otherwise: Keep your flip-flops on, or risk having a tingly, while you touch anything ungrounded.

I now use flip-flops while typing, or I stand on a rug, or a rubber mat.

Sometimes I forget, though.....and that ain't fun.

How do you determine if the temple is grounded ?

Firstly, it must have a good grounding in the concepts of the Doctrine of the Elders.

Secondly, all who pass through the temple gates must swear to never kill any living creature.

Thirdly; I would then check the wiring, because...one can never be too careful...lest one get killed,...

Inadvertently.

Rubber flip-flops and bamboo ladders have probably saved thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of lives, but I'm not sure that is the reason for their popularity.

More likely it's cheapness.

And, of course, 3-pin sockets are no guarantee that an earth (ground) is present.

So, you pull a gpo out and check that it has a ground wire and then trace it back to an earth rod ?

Not all year and not all areas are hot!

As opposed to getting killed on purpose?

Flip-Flops won't insulate you from an electric fence.

Just for the "grounded" wiring fetishers.
