How Thailand became the ‘sick man’ of Asia

Featured Replies

FT report on Thailand from yesterday.

Thailand manages to dethrone ‘Philippines’ as the ‘Sick Man of Asia’. Financial Times calls Thailand the ‘Sick Man of Asia’ a title that was for decades associated with the Philippines. FT said that the instability of the govt., loss of competitiveness, low-capacity utilization, banks reluctance to lend amid fear of non-performing loans, declining population and highest household debt in Asia, have all led the country to being crowned the title.

Politicians continue to campaign for the February 8 General Elections but with the ‘elites’ meddling with politics it is most likely that the same old same old will continue even after the results of the elections are announced.

"How Thailand became the ‘sick man’ of Asia"

Political instability and crazy immigration officers is all I can think of.

I remember when I first came here (as an over 50), post off for a 1 year VISA along with payment of 100 pounds, reason "I'd like to look around" and 3 days later passport returned with 1 year VISA.

But just look at the nonsense I'd need to go through today .........
