Even in Russia the top tier of society would be criminals in any normal country, excluding the current US of course.

TBH, I am not sure where your references to wife beating come from. There is no mention at all in the article about wife beating, so I’m a bit perplexed as to why you think there is any relevance to it in terms of any of the parties reported to be involved in this incident.

Sure, there are plenty of Russian military who are nothing but cannon fodder, but the Ukraine conflict is showing that there ARE professional elements to it. They just use the doctrine of shoving cannon fodder out front to increase their own survival hopes.

If the majority of the Russian army weren’t at least semi professional, Ukraine would be kicking their a$$e$ the hell out of Ukraine. And that isn’t what is happening……unfortunately.

As I said, not all. I think we agree in principle but I would say sheer numbers, of men and materiel, are what has stopped Ukraine kicking them out.

That’s certainly the deciding factor I think in terms Russia being able to make gains. And there ARE certainly a proportion of the Russian military that are sub standard compared to the norms of Western regular units. But there are also elite units in the Russian army that can hold their own with any.

Same with the armaments that the Russians use. A lot is Second World War junk, but they have a lot of it. And they do also have some decent kit.

Couple the cannon fodder armed with junk, with a willingness to endure casualties at a far higher rate than a western country would accept, and then add in some well trained, well equipped units. That’s the Russian army.

I just think too much is made of the rubbishy bits. It’s not representative of the whole military.

Sorry, I didn't know that the Russian is still a member of ASEAN NOW...
