Chiang Mai Immigration as of 11 Feb 2026.

  • Aliens are advised to get a yellow house book, then for the most part, they never need to get a COR again.

The OP was immigration office specific. Lamphun.

We don't require thread cover 75 offices.

If that's the case, then why is the title of the OP "How long to get your Certificate of Residency from your IO?" ?

The OP is specifically asking about other offices....

Buriram IO issues a CoR while you wait.

So far about 10 have been listed.

Only 65 more to go.

I (and others) have pointed out that COR is varied both on process time and cost at various offices.

The fact that you chose not to include the first line of my post in your quote, which blew your original comment out of the water, says it all.

Your use of the Royal "we" is also amusing, as in - "We don't require thread cover 75 offices."

Have a nice evening.

OP here. I've been in and out of Thailand for 35 years, but other than some "interesting" times with the customs department and the occasional visa extension, have not been much involved with the bureaucracy. Until now. So thanks for the feedback.

Looks like the provinces with more expats than here have decided they have better things to do than sit on a routine request for a week or two. The Lamphun office had three Myanmar nationals in there the first time I stopped by and no one at all the second time, so they might just want to look busy. Or, the boss doesn't bother to show up but once a week.

Interesting that BKK has different rules, even within the city. My government officer girlfriend was (unsurprisingly) less surprised than I at the variation between offices.

The fact that your immigration office quoted you 15 days to issue a COR clearly means that they don't like to do it.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Yesterday I renewed both my driving licences. I went to Udon Thani Immigration for my COR and it was the usual ฿500 and took about 45 minutes.

The new office is so much better than the old one.

Phuket

about 30-45 minutes 500 baht

1-3 days free

My thought exactly.
