They have been at my car again, whats the best bait to put in a rat trap cage

If you park in a garage, place glue boards against the walls.

I heard peanut butter is good in a rat trap.

For those square steel cage traps? Cheese filled hotdogs from 7-Eleven.

Where is the vehicle parked? There are different options depending on where the vehicle is located. For example, natural measures will not work in inner city urban parking garages. Rat traps are not going to help if the vehicle is parked in close proximity to a rat travel corridor.

It's common in Vietnam to see a skirt placed around the car when parked to prevent rats. I've never seen it here.

We park in an integral garage, we have 4 glue traps placed around the walls, shielded from our small dogs. We change the glue traps every couple of months when they're full of bugs. Never had a rat in one (yet).

I've had a problem with rats twice. My solution which has worked for a couple of years, is to put large white 'mothballs' in eggcups on the floor underneath the engine. A cheap solution which seems to work.

Prevention is better than clear up ? Good luck . .

As recommended by dealership, get a can of the fresh engine spray. You know the stuff that makes your engine shine like new and monthly or so spray and wipe down engine.

If you are using extermination traps put a spoon of chocolate spread ( the go to bait in the UK ) on the trap but check and clean it and the ground it sat on with soapy water every time you catch one and reposition the trap around the car, never the same place twice in a week inside of wheel left front to right rear, right front to left rear every week of as soon as you catch one, and make sure your smell is not on anything.

Rats like to travel beside the wall or another obstruction so you can position the traps 3 metres from your car beside the wall if you want and under your car

Rats are highly intelligent and will suss you out instantly so plan carefully
