NYC major Mamdani is off to a bad start

Featured Replies

In an absolute worst case scenario, maybe Mamdani can do some harm to NYC.

Small potatoes.

In terms of being a wrecking ball, Mamdani is a mere posseur compared to Trump.

Trump has messed up the entire US, with lower growth, higher "affordability", a skyrocketing deficit, rising trade deficit, greater national division, and a massive decline in support for the US around the world. Many people are saying nobody thought one corrupt, self-serving, willfully ignorant guy could do so much harm in so short a time. As Republican strategist Rick Wilson has said, "Everything Trump touches, dies".

Trump is so bad that even his most sycophantic supporters are out to get him, as we saw last weekend at Mar-a-Lago.

  • Mamdani's platform was the rich would pay for it, not the middle and low class folks. They believed Mamdani and now the middle class will bear the brunt.

This is why we need to embrace socialism now. In a fair system, individuals should receive only what they need to thrive, while the surplus funds are invested back into our communities through the gov

Bottom line? You want government services/intervention then you need to pay taxes.

So, you're in agreement with Mamdani being a bad major for NYC and will do harm.

You should look up the definition of socialism before posting a dumb meme.

These are the items that most Americans define as socialism.

Using taxes to pay for amenities is socialism in America. Did you pay for the road outside your house directly?

Socialism is where the government owns the means of production.

Same same. The people have spoken, they want more free stuff and the left wants to give it to them.

No free stuff, no peace!

I dislike all those Marxist/Socialist chants .The left have cornered the market on chaotic protesting, though.

What an epic projection from a member of a group (MAGA men) who feel this all encompassing need to be subservient to another man, even one as physically and morally repulsive as Trump!cheesy

Definitely prefer to belong to a group o MAGA men than a group of liberal soy boys. While Trump is my president, he's your daddy 🤣

Like the US government under Trump taking stakes in major companies?

Do you consider that owning the means of production? is Trump running the company?

Serves them right for being stupid enough to vote for the charlatan.

His ilk, the socialist in NYC would rather eat bread & protest then admit their systemic progressive initiatives aren't fit for free Market capitalism.

google overview:

"Socialist politicians in NYC, such as Assemblyman and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, are pushing for significant systemic changes, including rent freezes, municipal grocery stores, and expanded public childcare. These proposals are designed to increase affordability, but critics and some economic analysts argue they are incompatible with, and could disrupt, the city's free-market economy".

It depends. In the US, the people that buy fuel pay for the roads, through a road use tax applied to fuel. So, if you do not used the road, you do not have to pay for it.

Who are you to say what "most Americans define as socialism"?

What's the problem, he did promise to raise taxes when campaigning. Every increase in anything, will trickle down to everyone.

Social Security is one of the worst things to happen to the US, tha, public sector unions and affirmative action.

Hey ... Soc Sec is great, if you live long enough. Even better if you get disabled (by their definition), and retire 20 years earlier than they wanted you to. Along with exceeding your expiration date, 66.7 yrs for me.

You get most, if not all the taxes you ever paid while a salaried, tax paying employee, and then some. What sucks is, I can't really complain about the high taxes in the USA now.

I can only complain, they're one reason, I have no desire to return.

I feel it is necessary for me to point out that the one with the problem is one of your MAGA pals, as he's the one who started the thread.

Hope this helps!thumbsup

I don't have any MAGA pals, I don't think, or know of any. Some AN members that I enjoy reading sometimes (not you), do seem to lean right, if that's a thing, aside from their genitals.

Really don't know any AN member, or their genitals, which way they truly lean. I'm apparently a lightly right leaning libertarian, or so some survey filled out classifying thingy, put me in. After googling, seemed appropriate ...

With that, Mamdami & NYC wouldn't work for me.

Interesting test. I wound up pretty dead centre on authoritarian/libertarian (surprised me) and mid to the right on liberal/conservative.

Economic left/right was 5.75

Libertarian/Authroitarian -0.21

Too bad the voters fell for the promises of a communist.

The far left party support the oppressed people's of the world in all of its policy initiatives it seems.

One big Social Justice Activism Cult.

And then proceed to oppress those same people.

Only have to look at China. A peoples revolution to rid the country of an emporer, only to end up with another one. USSR was/is the same.

Thank the Lord for the useful idiots.

I like its original intention Old age . the ssdi is subject to fraud. Take those snow shoveling jobs as a example . Hurt your back ,file a workman's compensation claim and potential ssdi claims after workmans comp has completed.

google ai overview:

"Regarding your point on fraud, while the system is designed with integrity measures, it is not immune to misuse".

That's why I stated their definition of 'disability'. The Judge and myself decided I could work any job, problem was, I couldn't guarantee I'd be able to show up on a daily basis. My back would go out with no notice, simply bending over or reaching for something.

Their / SS doc, wrote me off completely as unable to work, due to back & hip not playing nice.

Even more bizarre, since I stopped working, my back hasn't gone out like it use to, as I'm really careful, and get to choose what, how & when I do things. Almost feel like I scammed SSDI, for a few years. Now off it for 6 years.

I had actually retired in TH, a year, before even filing for SSDI, and only did so on my brother's insistence ... "you paid SS taxes, use it you idiot", on my visit to help him, while my mother passed on to the next dimension. Really glad he made me apply.

So applied, got the almost mandatory denial 2X, then 2nd appeal in front of judge. Strange part is, I've generated as much salaried income that I earned, (sad in itself), over my working life, in retirement, via stock market & RE, the first few years in TH.

With full SSDI, I didn't, don't really need to touch my savings. And 2024, I almost banked all of my Soc Sec, while living off my pittance of a company pension.

Now due to inflation, and more comfy lifestyle, we only bank about half my Soc Sec. Sort of have too much than needed saved, and assets (land lots), so wife & kid are set, though neither needed my income anyway. A really good place to be. I still continue to save, as have a really hard time spending money frivolously.

Think I need to upgrade our accommodations when O&A. Problem is, I hate paying for amenities, I know I won't use. Don't need fancy gym or pool, and like being in the middle of nowhere, where fancy resorts usually aren't, or don't take dogs.
