Looking for a reliable fence contractor – any recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a good, reliable contractor to build a simple wire/grid fence on my property in Chiang Mai / San Sai.

The catch: the fence line is quite long – around 152 meters – so keeping costs reasonable is important. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a solid, practical grid fence that does the job.

Has anyone had good experiences with a local contractor or company they'd recommend? Ideally someone who:

- Does quality work

- Gives a fair, transparent quote

- Has experience with longer stretches of fencing

Any tips on ballpark pricing or things to watch out for would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Sam

I have no recommendation, but here's a bit of advice after dealing with many Thai contractors.

Retain ownership/possession of all the major materials. You buy them, have them delivered, you own them so you are paying for labour only, plus a few consumables along the way.

Use a calculator to estimate your requirements. This one seems reasonable - insert your general design and Thai price to get a reasonable assessment. Fence Calculator | Calculator.now

If the contractor asks for any up-front or progress payment, offer 10% of his quote to be paid on the completion of his 3rd day of work, the balance paid on a daily basis (if you can get away with it), or no more than 10% in any one payment - assuming that the appropriate percentage of work has or soon will be achieved. This way you minimise your potential loss and heartache.

There WILL be a loss and heartache, be prepared.
