On sympathy

There have been mostly negative comments here on AN against both genuine refugees and undocumented migrants.

Many are fleeing war zones or natural disasters. Some are fleeing poverty in their home countries. And now, climate change and the loss of basic livelihoods.

Just like all of us, all they want is a better life for their families. The family unit is the cohesiveness of society. It is the foundation of the community that every single person needs to lead a meaningful life. Helping others is a big part of what these undocumented “illegals” do.

Are there some bad apples? Absolutely. Exactly like our own society.

And there is your fear of your community being taken over. I believe it’s just change. We should all just get along with each other.

You tell me the “illegals” don’t integrate into our society. They want their children to keep their language and culture and religion. Just like my Greek brother-in-law.

I need you to watch the film Green Borders. It’s not a documentary. The film captures accurately what happens to refugees at national borders.

Just watch. We live here in Thailand high on the hog. We have pretty nice places to live in. When we smile at people, they smile back. We have both hooch and cooch in spades. And satisfying food. Yeah, we're legal. Does it matter so much? We contribute, hopefully, to Thai society. We like it here. We spend our money and, if we try to be good people, we give to humanitarian charities.

So here it is straight. If you don’t find any sympathy inside you for refugees, you’re a selfish bastard with a sharp-edged stone for a heart.

If you are anti-refugee, you're a 100% racist.

Put that on your plate.

That being said,

There are billions of people around the world in tough predicaments. Billions. Can’t save them all.

It’s quite unfortunate that some of these war-torn countries are such basket cases that the refugees from said countries not only cannot integrate with our culture, but cannot integrate with civilized society in general.

Send them back.

Its a compliment. It shows that you deal in reality. People that are usually called racists can tell the difference between men and women too

if they were truly climate refugees, they wouldnt go to north europe now would they ?

they would go to Thailand or any other country at the equator where theres still some warmth left

Send them to Australia, we've taken many nationalities over the decades. I remember going to school, in the 80s, we had the immigration hostel next door, lots of Vietnamese and Lebanese, good people. Vietnamese kept their chickens in their apartment, in their kitchen cupboards. Back in the eighties the Lebanese were Christians, they adapted, assimuated, worked hard and grew Australia.

These days we are very lucky, loads of Muslims arriving, sadly other Muslim countries won't take in their Muslim brothers and sisters. We open our arms, Muslim men have several wives, and many children, their families are living on welfare not contributing to the economy.

God bless Australia.

Yes this is very strange, I've been thinking about this issue. I read an article recently about these elderly guys. I'd say some of these older guys are leaning to the left because they are losing their manhood, their Y chromosome has gone missing

Another lecture from someone who assumes that he occupies a higher moral ground. I expect that I am like most people and am compassionate and welcoming of genuine refugees. People who have been screened and who are genuinely at risk of their safety. There is a big difference between a person fleeing imminent execution by a regime, and an economic migrant sailing over to Miami or Dover.

The migrants who have swarmed Europe and the UK are in large numbers economic, usually males aged 18-35. The war in Syria is over now. The millions of Syrians and Iraqis can return to their country without fear of death, but they won't return. They were allowed in to avoid the war, but now they refuse to leave. The bogus refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh are playing the system all the while engaging in their hateful practices. Others, like those who poured in over the US border from Haiti, Latin America, China and Africa are purely economic migrants.

The case that best sums up the farce of refugees is the ongoing Humboldt SK, Canada tragedy. On April 6, 2018, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, a truck driver on a work visa ran a stop sign at a high speed, and was found criminally negligent in a crash that killed 16 kids and left 13 in various states of injury including severe paralysis. He was put in jail for a short time and then paroled and supposed to be deported. 8 years on, the man is claiming refugee status and fighting deportation. People like the OP are rallying around the man, claiming, but he is just a poor refugee. Meanwhile he has procreated and has produced a child that requires expensive medical care. This man and his family has literally cost the Canadian taxpayers millions, and yet, he is allowed to continue the farce of his refugee demand. This is what is occurring in the EU, UK and USA. Australia had the right approach when it put the migrants on an island and dispatched warships to turn migrant boats back.

If left up to people like @unblocktheplanet, the West would give them everything for free, including all their distant relatives, for the rest of their lives, and generations to come. Free housing, money, transportation, cell phones, schooling, medical, etc., etc.. It makes no difference if they are low-skilled or no-skilled, because they would never be required to work, contribute to society, show an I.D., or even follow our laws.

To most people around the world, just another meal. To many it might get them to another day.

These people are taking housing from citizens, residents who were born in Australia.

Our fellow Aussies can't afford to rent housing, there are not enough houses to go around.

These migrants are put on Welfare and social security
