The weather, absolutely nothing else.

If the sun didn't shine in Thailand no one would entertain ever visiting or living here

Really, I prefer the rainy season so your comment has just been proven wrong. 😃

I'll go first: came for work, stayed because the quality of life was better than what I was going back to, then of course I met a Thai woman and that pretty much sealed my fate...lol

Same. I had a great chance to buy a small house with about 3-4 acres of land at avery good price back in 1998. I hadn't even met the future wife, but decided I wanted to live here for the rest of my life. Such a stupid 46 yr old man... Anyway, still here.

Thanks for your comment, and, yes, in my case one of the main reasons why I left. The Proof of income Letter from The British Embassy, no matter how much was the total income quoted from my 3 UK pensions, was essential for MY local Thai visa agency, the local Immigration Office itself! As a Thai Tourist Police Volunteer I had friendly contacts in the Immigration Office just across a parade ground, which provided a hassle free brown envelope service for several years. When Bangkok introduced new Draconian rules for a retirment visa, and being single, I simply crossed the border into Cambodia to join my Khmer friends in Siem Reap where I live happily to this day and get an annual Cambodian retirement visa without any hassle or brown envelopes - so simple!

I didn't notice any new Draconian rules, just enforcement of current ones.

Also get my yearly retirement extension, and so simple. Just have to provide my address & income. Same as it always was since 2000. Nothing has changed for non 0 visa, just enforcement due to so many expats not following the rules.

Don't take her seriously. It's just a wind-up.
