Black lays out the case that the USA doesn't need middle east oil and gas because it is energy self sufficient. The EU only imports 6% of its energy needs from the Middle east. It is China that is in serious trouble.

The oil and gas industry which is profiting from the current crisis, says that such measures won't work. Many free market proponents are opposed. They are also opposed to a windfall profit tax on the oil and gas sector. A temporary reduction in federal and state gas tax might offer some immediate relief, but a tax on the profiteers would be more helpful.
