We are at the south end of Kata and have used Karon Cable TV Co for the past year. Picture quality is great, only had to call them out twice for a cable break, and they fixed it within an hour or so. We pay 150 baht a point and installation was not so expensive (can't recall right now). About 50 channels, 4 sports, 3 English speak movies all day and a 4th at night. Well worth the money. UBC is far too expenive and you know when the rain is 10 minutes away as the sat signal dies.

Their office is on Patak road (418/2) about 500m before the Wat Karon. Going from Kata pass Baan Suay on the left, then a 7-11, and it's not much further on the right side. Well sign posted.

BTW it's 150 baht/month per point we pay (but we have a lot of points).

THere's also Kata Cable. They are a bit cheaper (N.B. standard rates for one point is 450 baht Karon Cable, 350 baht Kata Cable).

There's not much in it but Kata Cable used to be more reliable for sports. Since losing the EPL I'm not sure. I changed from Karon to Kata partly for cost (not 100 baht, I have 2 guesthouses with TVs in most rooms and it saved me a lot) but also Karon Cable's signal was down more often.

THey are based on Patak Road, just south of Kata Market.

When we finished building we first contacted Kata cable, but we were less than impressed by their complete lack of interest in even surveying our place and just refused to lay in a cable off the main road, some 50m even though we offered to pay. The boss/owner was never available over several weeks, and staff could make no decisions.

Karon cable were most efficient at laying in cable and providing a good strong signal.

Why so many cable companies on the island - and each seems to have differing programmes and viewing times - all so confusing. Would make so much more sense to collaborate, at least, on programming ie. Phuket Cable TV : see local newspaper/ website for weekly viewing scedules?!!!

Aren`t they all individually ripping off satellite feeds? There`s your answer.

I welcome the recent government issue of licences to cable TV suppliers, thus allowing competition in local areas. I well remeber the bad old days when PA Cable had the monopoly in Patong. The picture quality was terrible, loss of service on an almost daily basis. Many times I visited their office to complain. Their response - better get UBC. :o

When Dolphin TV arrived in Patong a couple of years ago, PA soon dropped their prices and improved service. :D

Doesnt take a genius to see why they all offer the multichoice sport packages.. Weak encryption on that feed..

I think a number of them are actually the same company, KPP. Kata Cable is certainly KPP.

I also think they get cards legally (or at least semi-legally) and don't hack the encryption codes, in response to a couple of the other comments on here.

If you believe they get rebroadcast rights to those channels (and thats not the same as buying a consumer access card) for systems collecting a couple hundred baht and having a few (perhaps 10's) thousands users, then I have a nice bridge for sale.. :o

Secondly I can say for 100% that some of the channel line up changed on my mates cable package the exact same day that some of the channels changed thier encryption system on the sat package. Some fairly heavy circumstantial evidence there methinks ??

I think you are probably absolutely spot on with your first comment. One consumer or maybe commercial card will serve a pretty large network of customers.

I know that in Phuket, for example, last year's World Cup was shown on cable via Supersport from South Africa, though the encryption code was changed the day after the opening game, as anyone unfortunate enough to use Dynasat will tell you. Therefore I'm pretty sure the companies in Phuket don't hack the codes but that may not be the case elsewhere.

KPP's office is almost opposite the Honda Car dealership on Phang Nga Road.

KPP is the parent company of many of the cable companies in Phuket.

50 channels, some good plus a lot you will never watch.
