Taxi To Transport Boxes In Bangkok

Featured Replies

I go to Bangkok a lot to buy goods to sell in my store. If I'm carrying one or two case of beer sized boxes I don't usually have a problem, but when I have collected everything and want to bring it to a transport company, many taxis will refuse to carry 10-20 boxes even though they fit easily and take less than two minutes to load.

I am wondering if I TELEPHONE a taxi company to pick me up, will I have this problem? It costs more and I give a decent tip for the boxes as well, but it would be nice to not have to stand and wait for a taxi to take pity on me. Also, I think that I could order a station wagon taxi from some companies.

Do you frequent taxi users in Bangkok think that this would work or have any other ideas to transport a bunch of boxes around the city fairly cheaply?

many of Bangkok's big Sawngthaews plying the routes not suitable or served by BMTA-busses can be rent for a couple of hours, or - in ur case - for short trips. if you know some locals in BKK, they should be able to help u with that matter......

i dont know which area u r going to, so cannot give u more advice....

You should be able to get station wagon taxi and the last time I telephoned for a taxi it only cost 20 baht more. If all your boxes will fit in a taxi why not just hire a taxi for the day to take you from place to place collecting all the boxes. I would think 1000-1500 would do it.

Mostly, the Sukumvit, Nana to Emporium area, but I have a Thai friend who I do a lot of business with and he doesn't ever suggest songteaws even though he always has to go and find a taxi - a different one every time which he pays for - to get stuff from his house. It is a big pain in the butt for him too, but he doesn't seem to know a different way.

The boxes fit easily, but it takes about a week to collect all the boxes and I sometimes go back to the same places two or three times and then I have to tape and address label all the boxes before sending them.

I pretty much have to do it the way that I am now, but I need someone that I am guaranteed won't turn down a taxi full of boxes at the last moment.

I've had similar situations, Songtaews or even tuk tuks can take quite a load, but they ask a fair bit and aren't always easy to find.

I found it cheaper to offer the taxi driver an extra 100B, they're more than happy. Part of the trick is to not let them see the boxes at first, as they tend to say no automatically.

I offer them an extra 100 baht every time, but many still say no or demand much more once they know that I am willing to pay that. By the way, it is pretty hard to "hide" 10-20 boxes when waiting for a cab in front of the hotel.
