Why not send pm to member "jdinasia", he has lived here in Phuket for a very long time and sure he can tell you where to go

with your bf.

Most difficult point will be to get a room I think :o

Happy New Year!

if you have not booked a room yet, you will be in trouble. many places have a 'compulsory gala dinner' on new years eve which you have to pay for regardless. it may be worth avoiding these places.

you can send me a pm and i will give you some info on a place to stay if you have not got anything yet.

Hotel booked! I also was expecting the "compulsory" New Years Eve Dinner at the hotel which I've run into many times over the years when in Samui and Khao Lak. But surprise, surprise they did not, even though I have booked the Holiday Inn. Maybe because I booked through a wholesaler and not through the hotel. When I tried to book the room direct through the hotel they wanted double the price! Looking for something nice and fun for New Years and not necessary a gay venue! Good food...good music...! Thanks Donna and Thaigerd for the concern and advice!

My girlfriend and I will be in Phuket over new year too! Very excited. We want something fun, but low key. I don't want to be surrounded by drunken/high people with sex in their eyes and have to watch out for vomit (or worse) puddles...I was thinking maybe somewhere in Kata or Karon will be a bit more low key than Patong...but I dunno. We might just have to wing it :o

Flightcrew, let us know how you go... my betting is that they will drop the dinner requirement on you when you arrive. If they do, you will be locked in to it (and there will be no point arguing). Call me a cynic, but...

Ping...I agree. (And I don't think your a cynic..but a realist!) I have lived here long enough to know that there is no point arguing. I will put the charge on my American Express card and decline the charge later if in fact they make me pay for the dinner. On the other hand...Let's see...I am down from BKK for 6 nights so if the dinner is any good I may just go with the flow...other nights for eating out and I'm not sure how many drunkards are going to be on the road if I drive up to Mom Tri's....so may play it safe..

Oh really? Let us know Donna! I have friends constantly coming down from BKK and are always looking for accomodation and asking my advice. Even my passengers on board the aircraft are always asking me. Do you have any type of website up yet?

yet another delay, n47han. the opening SHOULD be before december 20, but we dont know for sure. doesnt help when the owner comes and changes the plans every day, and when the contractors only show up when they know the owner will be on site. (amazing thailand)

we dont have a website up yet (due to the owners changing the name 4 times in the past two months), and i dont want to do any free advertising on here - being a mod, i will be jumped on quicker than others - but i can certainly pm members who ask me for information.

just to let you know what we will be:

a smaller hotel with 42 rooms. (rooms are on the small side but are beautifully decorated)

great location - only 100m from the beach

ground floor restaurant (and i have hired a great thai chef who does western/thai/fusion food)

ground floor cocktail lounge which will feature two stunning chandeliers as a centrepiece

rooftop jacuzzi (we have no swimming pool)

rooftop bar (perfect for sunset cocktails) - this is where i can be found from 6pm onwards i imagine

we will set up a sponsorship deal with thai visa, but wont do this until the hotel is completed.

Aaah Dona, thanks for clarifying the situation. I thought you oned the hotel (as all the references are My H). Now I understand, you are a hotel employee .... good luck with what seems to be an quixotic owner.

its on sawatdirak road. go down rat-u-thit road, turn right at the sai naam yen school, so you are heading towards the beach. the hotel is the pile of rubble opposite sala thai, at the entrance to sea pearl entertainment complex.

ive seen the artist impressions of the finished product, and although i do know that they are never exact, i am sure that our place will be quite lovely.

Ah, great to know too ! I've been wondering when it will open. Me, be a regular visitor (4 times yearly). Stayed next door at Royal Phawadee last august. Fully booked now in dec. Will arrive dec. 21 which seems to be right on time. Got booking elsewhere but will sure drop down to have a look.

last new years we spent on bangtao beach and it was wonderful, lovely meal on the beach followed by loads of beers and lanterns and huge firework displays along the full length of Bangtao. One of the best new years I a have had for many years (and certainly the cheapest !)
