Visit Guangzhou

Featured Replies

My wife a Thai national, with both Thai and UK passports and myself will visit friends in Guangzhou for Christmas. My wifes Thai passport is brand new except for one visit to Singapore, so easy to see that there would be no china stamp in it if she used her UK passport for entry into/out of china.

Anyone suggest which passport she should use when applying for her china visa. Is there any advantage entering china (at immigration) using a UK passport over a Thai one?

Thanks

It's exactly the same. But you'll save 100THB using her Thai passport, 1000 for thai, 1100 for uk/europe, 3400 for Yanks...lol :o

Will a visa be issued on arrival China, or do we (Uk & Thai) need to go to Chinese Embassy and apply for a visa ?

Is a sponsor required ?

Look at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/thailand.htm

I just found the site..gives you all the info..you can phone them and ask if all is not clear. Maybe good idea to take your air tickets..or copy of e-mail showing the booking.

For info it cost us 12400 Baht each (Thai Airlines..going economy as its only two hours ) to travel peak period...19th Dec to 2nd Jan..normally about 6900 Baht or less.

Note: Macau belongs to China; so if you're in China, whatever the visa or passport: no problem to visit Macau.

Chinese citizens need a special permit to visit Macau but also no problem, generally spoken.

Not sure if you are telling him that he will not need a new visa to get back into China or not, but he will need a visa to go from Macau to China. It may be part of China, but customs is still in place.

Use either passport, they both allow you to enter Macau without needing a visa. Get a double entry tourist visa for China from the Chinese embassy. No sponsor is needed.

You will need one entry when you fly into Guangzhou, you will leave China when you go to Macau. It is owned by China, but you still go through exit customs for China and entry customs for Macau (works the same for HK). After spending time in Macau, you will need to use the second entry on the visa to re-enter China.

You could always either start or finish in Macau also. Take the Air Asia flight from BKK to Macau.

The Macao SAR still has its own customs and immigration regulations which are different to the Mainland. British passport holders get 6 months on arrival (or did a couple of years ago). No idea about the situation for Thais, but I would guess it would be less. If you are entering Macao from China be prepared for the hordes and a long wait at immigration on the Chinese side. Macao is much faster. Also the permit for Chinese citizens to visit Macao (or Hong Kong) is by no means automatic. There are specific categories of person who may apply, and these exclude huge swathes of the population. Chinese who have their Hu Kao (household registration) in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and I believe also Guangzhou, do not need the permit.

So we downloaded the application forms from the embassy web site last night, completed them very neatly and went to the embassy today.

The good….service was very quick…less than five minutes to wait to get to the counter to give our forms in.

The rest…advised by guy at form issue desk that my wife should use her Thai passport as only need a single entry…I knew that was wrong, but my wife is Thai, so she knows best..I read using her Thai passport will cost me 400 Baht more.

So arrive at application counter…am told your form is outdated get a new one and come back “I say but I only downloaded it from your web site last night..she say get new form...finish! So get a new form, have to rest it on my knee as counter full of other people doing the same thing. Our forms look like a spider filled them in..no problem though

Back to counter..lady says both of us need a double entry visa…collect it in three days time..pay then.

Job Done…I hope.......
