Somtamnication Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 It is a rough ride. I knew that when I bought it. But I am also concerned about the car warranty if I change shocks. I hear the Rancho 9000 are the way to go for heavy vehicles like Fortuner or the 4x4 trucks. Prerunners are not 4x4. Any advice for the much sought after soft ride for my rear passengers? (It is a 4 door, the people behind me jump metres when I hit a bump). Would a 50kg sand bag in the back help?

Hi Somtam A very good question. I wish I could answer it! I too wish to change shock on the Vigo 4x4 currently on order. With the 'bad press' about stability/braking, I thought the logical answer to improve without warranty probs would be to fit shock like the new Fortuner 'Smart' limited edition.Sounds simple does'nt it. No! After contacting my dealer and spending TOO MANY hours on the Interweb, I now think they dont exist (TRD shocks for Vigo/Fortune-er). I read somewhere TRD use Bilstein shock, so I'v failed miserably in my quest to give MORE money to my local Toyota dealer Maybe, Somtam our learned Thai listener Mr MIke The-exvigoman will have all the answers without breaking the warrenty rules ? Good luck Dave p.s. A further 20 passanger in the back might help
highonthai Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 It is not the shocks that are giving you the stiff ride, its the springs. Yes, add weight. Or get yourself a set of deavers or some other springs and then change the dampers to suit the springs. Compression damping on small truck shocks are not giving you that hard ride. Tunning suspension IS a art. I know a little bit about suspension. Just changing to some so called gas filled shock aint going to do it for ya. You won't be satisfied. And while Im at it The TRD toyota truck only made about 300 miles out of the 1300 at last weeks BAJA 1300! I have the 9000's on my little jeep, they dont do much with the terrible (old man emu) springs that were installed on it. I use (sponsored) bilstien shocks but not the not the type you find on a street type pre runner. Bye the way, do you guys know what a Pre Runner is? Why it's called that?
Somtamnication Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 Ahh, it is more technical than I thought.... I have no idea about the Prerunner name. Japanese mentality? For the time being, I will add more weight, and then think on how to smooth the right.
dotcom Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Softer progressive rate springs. Go & talk with new fiber 4X4 at the corner of Srinakarin Road & Udomsuk (103). Very knowledgable.
