The Thai government is organizing the 3rd year of Tsunami commemorative events on December 26th focusing on Phang-Nga. In the morning the memorial services will take place in Bang Niang near the main road where the police patrol boat was washed ashore and at a memorial site in the fishing village of Ban Namkem. Religious ceremonies will also take place. In the evening Princess Ubolratana will graciously preside over the commemorative ceremony at Chong Fah beach like last year. The Phang-Nga provincial authority is now working on the preparation for the event. The commemorative ceremony will be televised live nationwide by Television Channel 11.

In Phuket the Provincial Administration Organization is holding a ‘Light up Patong’ event in commemoration of people who departed in the December 26th tragic incident.

Three years on: Phuket marks tsunami anniversary

PATONG: Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) is organizing Light Up Phuket on December 26 to mark the third anniversary of the tsunami tragedy in 2004.

More than 100,000 candles will be lit along the three-kilometer stretch of sand at Patong Beach.

At 10:50 am, 108 monks will pray during a ceremony at Loma Park, Patong.

Candles will be placed in the sand on the beach and lit between 5 pm and 7 pm while a standing vigil is held to remember those who died.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the memorial services.

In Phang Nga province, a ceremony attended by HRH Princess Ubol Ratana Rajakanya will be held at Chong Fa Beach in Takuapa District.
