Words, Like Tears In Rain...

Featured Replies

Why do people get wound up over words?

As a forum frequenter, I read people talking so much dust in the wind every day,

As a Bartender and barfly in general, I listen to people talk, all day, every day.

And, as a regular person myself, I interact and talk and listen to people all the time.

90% of anything that is said/written is utter codswollop anyway. Increase the percentage if you're into politics.

So Why is it, that we can sometimes be so very deeply hurt/angered/affected by words?

Why do some people end up hating eachother after an exchange of words, be it here in the forum, in a bar, or anywhere?

Why can't we all just get along?

I think it's to do with "intent" versus "impact". Words are harder to put over exactly what you mean and so therefore are often taken the wrong way and missing the initial intent. They just miss the human interaction, vocal sound and facial expressions etc.

IMO

Let's have some codswallop on codswallop.

Everyone....lineup for a dollop of codswallop.

Edit: I think that exceeded 90% codswallop in this post....congratulations and condolences are in order. Why is it, that some people can sometimes be so very deeply hurt/angered/affected by my words?

hahhahahahhahhaa

P.S. The above is just an attempt to bring immediacy to this question in the hopes that the immediacy of this post scriptal reminder of the immediacy of the reaction will help in diagnosing the answer. (I have a general rule that I don't explain jokes but I have put that rule aside here.)

Really,

Chownah

The following clip ends in a severe cod's wallop whilst the initial ones can probably only be classified as kippers-slappers.

Ok mate we're here for you, you know that.. now tell us.. who have you fallen out with?

^^ M-S thanks for that smile!

Chownah's response might be the most eloquent so far.

Robski, no-one mate.

Myself maybe.

Just bored today, is all.

And hung over.

Actually, come to think of it, I did write a semi angry email to somebody last night, when I was drunk a/a skunk.

This morning, still drunk, I deleted it from my "sent mail" folder, in some sort of vague notion that it would get deleeted from the recipients "inbox". :o

She has since sent me a rather apologetic reply.

But I don't think that had anything to do with this.

Hey Klown, you thanked everyone for their input except me :o

But at least i got another post count replying :D

Robski's skulking, following all of this...

HEY! <deleted> BoJ... Hijacking my one and only thread of today with your crusade to post loads of words! :redcard:

It makes it look popular though buddy.

Tig's 7,000 post thread has gone to 3 pages :o

Yaaaay. I've done it. How do i get that screen capture thingy Kayo to post it.

It is indeed a memorable (albeit wasted) day :D

Special thanks to, in no special order, Kayo and Tiggy :o:D

SHUT UP !

:o Just kidding.

Well, lets see. I'll make it breif and try to sum it up.

I think it's that weird combo of wanting to be liked and still thinking we are better than everyone else.

Then you throw in the new order of PC and people are looking hard for a wrong word so they can be the victim. Then their tounges start waggling and they start pointing and making that "Invasion of the body snatchers" sound.

Robski's skulking, following all of this...

No just being very lazy today...

Nice title kayo 'Words, Like Tears In Rain..., A discussion on the mortality of Words.'

When words are said it is easy to place a value on them, like 'I won't do it again' for instance, or 'yes I promise' or the 'L' word perhaps..

But time and distraction can shorten their longevity.

Unconditional becomes conditional, solemn virtue becomes a little tainted, before it gets discarded and forgotten alltogether.

But they're only words after all, they can be dusted off polished up and re-used, maybe a little more cautiously next time.

Robski,

In terms of the usage of words, that may have been the most eloquent post I've ever read of yours.

Wow, dead heavy and profound Robski!

You can polish your words but you can not polish your turds.

That's the main reason why turds are more offensive than words.

Words have power and without a disclaimer they will effect the listener. Some people have trouble separating fact from fiction as well.

Yes, and even fiction is based on facts. :o

Should I just string together a bunch of pretty words for you? How about a Bjork video or Sugarcubes video? They always make me feel happy.

  • Author

Sugababes... yeah a video of them might work..

:o

We should have a Def Poetry Jam here in Bedlam. How many here can spit slam?
