I eat at a lot of places here on the island, but rarely do I find really anything "fantastic". Pretty bored with my usual outlets at the moment.

Not big on spending a lot of cash (falang keenyao if you know what I mean, ("Hey! I resemble that remark!")) so I'd rather not see Baan Rim Pa or The Boathouse mentioned, but if you folks could pipe in with where you think the food is really good, and maybe a little why you think it's good, I'd appreciate it and maybe some other members might be interested in something new too.

Cheers, HB

Huggybear, if you have a search through the archives, you will see this has been covered before. It also really depends upon what you are after (type of cuisine) and where would be convenient for you. Assuming you are after British-type fare, in Patong, I would say the best roast ( and their other food is great too, including their excellent desert pies) may I suggest Sheila's (in Soi Sansabai next door to the Yorkshire Inn). The Yorky also does very good meals but for value, you can't go past Sheilas. The Islander In Soi Patong Resort, off Bangla, does good varieties including a roast and a very good (huge) steak and kidney pie, but they tend to leave stuff in the warmer and if you arrive outside normal meal times, you can find the food not at its best (unless you like things like crisp and hollow -read empty - yorkshire puddings). I could go on, but it really depends upon your favoured fare - more information please (and do try a search of the archives).

I have heard some recommendations for Sheila's, but those that have tried the Beach House's on Nanai poo-poo Sheila's in a big way (so to speak). The Beach House's roasts are the best I've had anywhere, including back home.

Well that surprises me. Sheila's does an excellent meal, you get your choice of three roast meats (or all three if you wish), it is a bottomless plate and it is cheaper than the Yorkshire (oh, and it is a 90 second walk from my house). This Beach House restaurant must be something else. Where is it - I'll try it when I get back?

Well, "something else" is pushing it a bit - it's just an ordinary bar that happens to do very good roasts. It's on Nanai, about 100 yards on the left after soi banzaan ie going south. Weds roast pork, sun lamb/beef and they're experimenting with chicken on fridays, which was particularly good, I thought. It will depend on demand as to whether they keep the chicken.

I should add I've never tried Sheila's, although did have their fry up on a similar recommendation, which I thought so so at best.

Sure K. Ping, thank you.

As soon as this yawning festival I'm attending gets over, I'll get right on that.

Well, at least your response didn't disappoint me (just what I expected). :o

In Samkong:

good and dirt-cheap Italian food at PPizza, next to Samkong Shrine. Large Heinekens at 70 baht!

Excellent and reasonable Thai food at MaePorn Seafood on Hongyok Utit Rd (the road that runs from Bankok-Phuket Hospital up[ to Rang Hill. On your left not far from the Royal Spa.

Another good restaurant, and very cheap, on the same street is White Tent (look for the White tent out front), opposite the Samkong Park.

Sangkasee is a ramshackle zinc-roofed restaurant that has always been one of the most popular in Samkong. It's always crowded. Very cheap food and delicious, but this is not the place to bring her on the first date as its right out on the street and very smoky and noisy. Opposite the twin 7-Elevens and Idea Pub in Samkong, not far from Bangkok Phulket Hospital.

Not in Samkong:

Leelawadee, next to Kajonkiat School, is great for kids and has good Isarn, Western and Thai food. Very nice staff, but to be avoided if you don't like kids. Large Heinekens 100 baht.

Hope this helps

Bon appetit

Down south.

Ban Hat Rawai for delicious Thai food and lovely view of the islands in the bay. On Rawai beach south end.

M&M's. Italian food. Pizza cooked in a wood fired oven and homemade tagliatelle and to die for tiramisu. Also on Rawai beach at the moment but heard a rumour they are moving inland a bit.

The Corner. As the name suggests, it is on a corner on the road to Naiharn beach. Good Thai and Western food. Usually busy.

Rum Jungle. On Saiyuan Road south of Don's. Great western food. Small. Rustic setting, good music and friendly owner/chef. Great specials. Tony's food is original and inventive.

Enjoy!

Kata- Capanina for great vegtable dishes and salads and of course pizza.

Joes' South- great food all around, incuding their Tuna Tartar. Gorgeous decor and great setting too. Upscale.

Phuket Town - Natural off the market road. Not expensive, popular with Thai families and an overall original! Huge menu with Thai dishes not found everywhere...

Nai Harn - Khao Man gai and Mama Noi's. Mama Noi next to the pharmacy just south of Soi Naya. She has the cleanest ktichen in All of Thailand I think!

I also have a list of bad dinning experiences:

Rockfish in Kamala -

Lims also in Kamala -

Compeltely over rated!!!

PM me for more details

O.K., different response:

I'm not going to search the archives as 50% of the restaurants in Phuket, don't make it. So probably there is a lot of old (bad) info in there.

I was curious regarding where people who are on the Forum right now, eat.

There have been some good responses, thanks to all, except for the cat who listed the fast food chains, why anyone would want to give their money for that corporate slop, is beyond me.............although I know he was just going "tongue in cheek".

Thanks for that, Rich.

There are a number of very good restaurants in Chalong, backwater it may be.

The dim sum place on right heading towards Phuket Town, gets me for lunch a lot.

For Farang meals, "Green Man" suits me fine.

I'm with you phuketrichard, I have tried the Green Man on five different occasions, each time going in with an open mind thinking, ahhh, tha last time was a fluke, but flat out, the food there sucks.

That's why K. Pings response to my original posting was so absurd. Tells me to search the archives and then goes on to tell me where to find the most bland food on the island. Why did he assume I wanted English roast? Because I'm speaking English?

Spicier the better. If it ain't got spice, it aint so nice. Bring on the heat !

the food at green man is not worth the money they charge. So many other choices

The islander in Patong has much better british food and cheaper although to me brit food is not worth eating.

Like the thai's say

Mi Pet Mi Arroy

Unless it happens to be ribs

Korea, MMMMM love bulgoki and the bbq shrimp although u can keep the kimchi and dog is not to bad

Just back from Phuket, here my choises for eating venues:

Italian food: Kata, la Capannina da Mario, every meal is a pleasure. Phuket Town: Salvatore. Tried a new place in Kamala: Basilico (it also has a small hotel nearby) and both pizza and pasta dishes were good.

Thai food: Kan Eang (both of them), The Seahag in Patong, Mama Noi in Kata and a place on the beach road in Rawai that do a fabolous roasted pork (cannot remember the name).
