BKK Madness was one of my favourite posters here. He's got all the qualities of about ten current bedlamites put together.
WINBut, was thinking too high and might of himself by trying to push his URL in his sigh.... once his web-page came up and running...in our face "here is my Weg-site". I did say so on a post in the Forum Support...... Also posted rubbish about Mods........ and Rules etc...at the end. Had time to conform to the rules and fair play Mods did give him a very long rope IMO. Shame on you BKK :D we all miss you, but .......... you did it to yourself. Why :o

Yes, I suppose this is quite accurate portrayal of how we left us. And as you say, the rope was long and he kept yanking it. We were all in a bit of a mood when it happened. Most of us remained fairly quiet, went elsewhere for a while or at least voiced ourselves a bit more eloquent.

Still, a loss nonetheless.

How the heck was BACKPACK Thailand Banned???? He was just a nice chap - lived in Kanchanaburi.

WINK.O. Please give me a break will you, read his last post calling our "Dear Knees" a "Tosser". BTW also his mates pinched one on me photos for thier web-page and I mentioned this on "ThaiVisaDotCom" and next day the photo was gone, great work "ThaiVisaDotCom" thank you for that. Got a very nasty e-mail from them after that BTW, so to BackPacker ............................................. :bah: . Hint to all = do not call an Admin or Mod as Tosser :D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't aware of the photo issue. Was it BPT that called Knees a tosser? I thought it was someone else.

Oh well. Fair game, I suppose.

WIN: RDN is the other one who was good to have around.

Yes, miss the old Roger a lot, well I do. :D

Kan Win, but not this time around, only sadness :D

You will notice that I have not made any comments on any of the members who have been proposed for the same reason.

Why not? I don't really see how the two can be considered equivalent. It is perfectly easy to give your opinion on a banned / current / absent member without discussing moderation. Why shy away from it? Would be interesting to get a mod's perspective on the members suggested, especially from the mod who requested we mention them.

Crowboy wasn't around when a lot of these "legends" got the boot. Anyway, his choice whether or not to share opinions.

  • Yes, I appreciate what you are saying CB. What I am trying to do is to generate discussion to gauge whether there is significant support for my views. If there is overwhelming support, then I would

And finally, the "Not-banned-but-never-seen-anymore" Members I'd like to see more of are:

The Pre-Mod totster. He's doin' a fine job Mod-ing but he was way more fun before.

And where oh Where is Daleyboy????

Britmaveric

Thomas Merton

Butterfly

Chuchok

Bambiina

In most cases - from the names I mention here - they are all-round genuine blokes/lass who tell it like they see it and don't beat around the bush.

Britmaveric is definitely still alive and kicking - I'm almost sure that I have had some intercourse with him in the last few days, if not today.

I'm sure Chuchok still posts as well.

As for Thomas Merton, Butterfly and Bambina - all names I recognise and seem to have a residual warm fuzzy feeling about but that could be from the old lurking days!

Yep Brit is definately still very active but not soo much in Bedlam.

Thomas Merton, didn't like the pompous git anyways. :o

Bambina won TV poster of the year only last week or so. And so she is definately around, albeit more quiet than her early days.

Not sure about Butterfly though.

Just done a quick search through names and remembered cdnvic. Not seen him around for a while either.

prob cause his missus not long ago had a baby, imagine he is quite busy with that at the mo :o

All in a bit of a mood?

I can't remember being agitated, did I miss something?

If you can't post openly Kayo, pm me, I would like to know what kicked off his anger, that wouldn't allow himself to let go.

Cheers

What's happened to this thread? :D

:o

Post #99... that's what's happened! A defining moment in TV history! :D

But seriously though ( :D ) there is one poster mentioned who I cannot believe people would want to see back here... I suppose that doesn't bode well for my original proposal, because some of us see posters very differently from others.

The point CB made earlier about discussion of moderation issues (ie as to the merits of a particular person being banned in the first place) is the reason of my concern about being close to the wire. Aside from the fact that we are unlikely to know the full details of the reason (since offending posts are usually deleted), and (of course) that it is against the rules, the problem is it can set all sorts of theorising scenarios which may be unfair to the person concerned (since they are not here to defend themselves). Let's try to avoid that trap...

Here are some common reasons:

Most long standing members who ended up banned, did so because they 'spat the dummy' quite severely when they were already close to their last chance and told this was the case, or demonstratively failed to listen when a mod or admin told them to refrain from doing this or that.

Many of them had a beef with one or several of the forum rules from the very beginning, chose to ignore the fact their membership is conditional to following the rules, or had a habit of trying to test the rules and patience of mods and admins one too many times by, for example, criticizing individual moderator actions in the open forum instead of using the PM route and/or send an email to support[at]thaivisa[dot]com if wanting to contact Admin about moderator misconduct.

Some were fine most of the time, but 'under the influence' got extremely argumentative, insulting, or posted pictures or texts in clear violation of the rules and good taste, and in the end all such occasions added up to a ban.

Yet others used their nick on this forum to recruit posters to other forums, and when these things coincided with a particularly heated argument with another forum, these posters were kicked out in the process.

I think that covers most of those who have been mentioned.

Interesting list of missed banned posters.

Sure, some were good contributors but had great difficulty in following rules. Even very important ones listed at the top of the rules page.

I can't think of one poster that has been banned solely because a mod didn't like them, in all the cases I can recall, all were banned for consistent rule breaking, generally in an abusive sort of way.

Perhaps, now that they appreciate the finality of being banned, they may be more observant of the rules if given a lifeline (in the knowledge that it would definitely be 'final' if there were a recurrence)?

I also had my favourite posters long before i was a mod. But having been around the mod forum. You see more there as certain things are brought up. That may or may not be missed by members. BTW britmaveric is still around and my mate chuchok is still around. Though not just as much. People go through fazes. Sometimes they post alot. Other times they hardly have the time.

Ah well, CB threw us some crumbs at post #99, so I suppose you can't blame us for scooping them up... :D

^ Ye of little faith... :o

(I said a couple of pages ago that we were flogging a dead horse, but then a bit of CPR was provided and I thought I could feel a pulse. Well, if this is going nowhere, it's time to bury this poor dead animal before he starts to get on the nose.)

Please close this thread.

Don't be too upset Ping, the mods are just having some sport with us, instead of the other way round, do you think we should post some warnings to them :D

Meadish, for discussing moderation issues you are on warning level.

SBK, nope not going there, she has big boots :D

CB you are on posting review, they must be vetted by Myself, Jangles or Ping before public viewing. :o

Please close this thread.

No chance of that, the mods are having too much fun :D

I'll just get my coat
