Opposite Of Crap

Summer mornings, bird song, a kiss on the cheek, a hug from a mate, a cold wine after work, Armin Van Buuren, hearing the sea crash to shore, picking up a child who has fallen, cashmere throws, books on Thailand, crunchy bacon strips, knowing your mates are totally on your wave length and not having to prove yourself cos people think they are better than you ... :o

a few of these out of the fridge after a red curry. :o

Well, right now, the man I'm seeing. And in addition, Bavik Beer. Yum to both.

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, Strongbow cider, not having to get up a 6am on a cold wet UK morning for the drive to work anymore :o

Knees that bend and shoulders that don"t creek anymore.

Beef stew and dumplings with a couple of drops of Tabasco.

An odd one, if you haven't done it, you may not get it......... being at a Thai funeral with a silver bowl full of small sweets and one Baht coins, and watching the kids scatter and scramble when you throw them into the air.

Flip flops instead of wellies.

Sitting at your computer just in your underwear and no one thinks anything of it.

Happy dogs.

Grinning like an idiot when some old Thai dear thinks you are understanding every word she says.

Teaching all the kids in you daughters class how to 'high five'

and just to keep up my little devil reputation....... wiping out an ant colony :o

What is it called Old Speckled ???

Strong fine ale, 5.2%

Some things change, but a good beer will never let you down. It's wise of you to hedge your bets like that. :o

:o Most definitely.

Eating a stonkingly hot Thai curry.

Bright sunny mornings.

Doing Yoga and Tai Chi.

Singing.

Reading.

Doing soduko puzzles.

Driving one of my classic cars.

Hugging, kissing, etc...

Good wine.

And so much more...

Ol' Specky Rooster is a fina ale!

For me Thursday is a different day, not just this one day of the year, but every Thursday...... a few of us ex-pats decided a few months ago to take one night out from our busy schedule to patronise somewhere different on this day of the week, for the last few months it has been The Steka Bar, owned by a lovely couple, both Thai, he worked as a chef in Sweden for around ten years and she was married to a westerner for a while, between them they still can't spell Steak.

This is a tin hut bar, a dozen poles in the ground with a corrugated roof, but the food is seriously good.

A few of the teachers from the local school visit quite frequently, I practice my Thai with them and I reciprocate with some English tips..... in walks Khun Goong with a couple in tow, Goong is the main English teacher and the couple he has brought with him are out of this area and both English teachers, they have with them their three daughters aged 8, 10 and 12

After a while most of the ex-pats have gone, the topics of muslims in the UK and Thai driving skills being exhausted for the umpteenth time, leaving just me and Chris (my best mate here) the three girls and their hangers on :o

My Thai language skills are not brilliant, as for Chris, he can't even say Kop Khun Khrap properly, but between the five of us we are having a laugh, me acting as the translator between them and us, then it came time to pay the bill, while we are settling up the three girls disappeared..... when we are ready to leave they re-appeared, each one holding a single red rose and they said to us in unison 'Happy Valentine'

Some days, I just love this country.

A toothless grin from a betel eating Issan woman, my son in a plastic bucket in Bangkok when it was bath time, sticky rice and som tam, an approaching thunderstorm in south Thailand, ready to harvest rice blowing in the wind, driving a Harley through Phang Nga Province, roti nam geng in the morning with my hubby, the constant view of the limestone carsts of Phang Nga Bay as I drive to work, laughing headsquared women in southern fishing villages...

Such a great story. I know exactly what you mean about moments like that.

Climbing to get off boats at awkward piers only to be pulled up by a lovely Thai Muslim man or smiling old Thai Buddhist man and then welcomed on shore by fat, laughing women making tea, fried chicken and kanom in banana leaves, jumping on the back of a motorbike taxi after a few drinks to go to Safari in north Phuket, passing an elephant on the road going for his evening stroll, buying cheap clothes at the market and the stall owner realising you speak Thai and telling you her life story, being in Issan at Songkran and travelling around with Thais in open backed trucks with a massive bucket of water and lots of powder, buffaloes, chickens under the house...

A few beers, my team winning at football and a bit of "how's your father". I'm a man of simple pleasures :o

That's a good description! :D

Easy question. A warm cloudless day down the beach with a glass of Tiger in one hand, a Benson in the other and a fine woman in the other. I'm happy to juggle.

Don't worry, Seonai. Moderation and objectivity are often an illusion. So, welcome back.

Welcome back seonai and don't forget to keep your head down :o
