I have 600k to buy a car and I want to buy something fast and not more than 10 years old.

I was thinking to look for an impreza turbo or similar. What is available and any advise please.

Thanks

first of u cant buy an evo 8, or 9 for 600k. and if u do imagen the sort of crash it would have been in.

u can get an evo 6, sti 1996model, 200sx, honda intergra dc2, or best of all in my opinion, is get a 1994 honda civic hatch 3dr....for 150k, and use the rest for 450k on modifications. trust me on this. if u do that u would smokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee everything!!!!!!!! either go for a gsr head b18c and turbo it, due to lower compression rate then those of the b16a series. or even a k20a motor from the integra dc5. my recommendation, is get the old hatch civic drop a b16a, b18c, or, k20a, turbo kit, ecu, tunning, mods, wheels, breaks, drive shaft, fuel injectors, fuel line, axels, wheels, suspension, body kit. then your laughing.

i would estimate about using 250-300k on the motor building including the motor if u have to make the swap. you chould be getting close to around 300-400whp and weighing just 960kg....u got nearly a 450hp per ton.....thats similar to bugatti veyron....haha...

oh yea i saw a stripped out civic turbo producing 500whp running an amazing 7second quater mile.

I've got an Impreza with a GDB STi engine, Hydra EMS, Greddy boost controller, GDB Drivetrain & Suspension and Version 6 Interior/Exterior, STi aluminium bonnet, DuPont paint. Currently producing 320HP.

Slightly above you price but PM me for further details if you want.

Can you say "Torque steer"? :o

Gonna convert to 4WD as well?

400 HP just on the front wheels is going to be quite the smoky effect unless you put a raw egg between your foot and the throttle pedal!

Better budget for some spare tires as well :o

I'd go with a Subaru WRX as well. You won't find an Evo 7/8/9 at that price.

Just be very careful you get one that is original. Some of these conversions (ie. fake WRX's) are extremely dodgy and not worth it IMO.

First of all Cars is very Complex .. and also depend on where you drive it .

The term Fast will only apply if you run a Str8 road ,

if you drive a AE86 .. if fully mod with a 4aGE engine 20v engine - you will not win a Str8 road race .. but if you hit the winding road at lampang - you will lead like a roadrunner ,

well AE86 is a RWD while the SUBARU WRX if it the 4WD version ..600k might be too low .

POWER also = More Needs for COntrol ..

a Drag CAr which can go from Zero - 100km .. maybe in a Few second ..is only fats on the Red light .. after that might be lousy when it need to take a corner

gaven if you going to Drive it in Bangkok .. a Little girl riding a bicycle might Beat you in a SImple 1km race .

Due to the BAd traffic ..

a well balance set up to your NEeds is very importance , so you get what you want ..

While no Fast cars is CHeap .. 600k is enough for you to get something done .

Drop we a PM - and we can exhchance contact so maybe we can work something out .

If you want a fast car for under 600K, you can have ours for 580K. It's an early 80's Toyota Corona with a souped up 2.0 liter inline-4. Top speed when coming down a hill is 130km/ph. It goes 0 to 100 km/ph in 30 seconds! Comes with a luxury tape player too. :o

That would be an 8-Track then TB :D :D

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I'm not sure if the original tape player is an 8 track...it looks like it takes regular cassettes widthwise. I have a modern Toyota tape player from my brother-in-law's Hilux Tiger (he bought an aftermarket CD player). Our hotrod is a "classic car"...hear the roar of the inline 4! :o

the civic is the toyota ae86 direct rival. even though the hatch and all civics are front wheel drive, it is a known fact that civics, and integras have the best handling system for a dront wheel drive cars.

if your pick up any motor dvds, grip battles and so forth u will see the civic runs in classes and thrashes evos/stis/supras/rx7 and so forth. all u need to do is build it properally.

their is no point producing 300-400whp if you are not gona find and lsd, drive shaft, axels, brakes and so forth. you need to build it up safe! throwing power without control is gona get anyone in trouble. btw i just sold my hatch....it was a beautiful car, a great drivers car. vtec all the way. the thing is...this car needs driver involvement. it is a very light car. thus accidents have a rather big crush zone....just dont hit a bus or a truck and you will be fine! haha aslong as your dont over speed and drive like a manic! haha...like i do.

here is a pic of my civic, its was rather simple. btw i bought it stock...and did all the mods myself...so if u have any futher questions you can ask me....

here are some pics of my civic i just sold. as i menationed i bought it stock and moded anything and everything...so if you have some questions just ask me.....(btw my car went through a few phases in the 3years i owned it)

btw here is a list of mods i did. its not super powerful or anything. but i was producing about 260hp per ton...i do rip into the cefiros and bmw, benz with 2jz or 1jz. accelerates 0-100 low fives, my max speed on the civic was 238km/h

trust me in such a light car u feel everything....it is really a wonderful car if u have the patience.....btw mine was not turboed. just na. if your prefer na, your can get a b20 block for additional 40,000 to a b16a and well from a stock 160-170hp you should be boosting around 220hp and a big jump on torque....which in many ways is needed if you are looking for a daily driver....

Philipm...that's quite a bit of modfication you've done with the Honda Civic. With front wheel drive, anything over 300 hp would be tough to control with all the power going to the front/steering wheels only. Nissan Cefiro is RWD so you can stick more hp under the hood and still control the vehicle.

Have you ever modified a pickup? It seems that many young guys modify pickups although most go for offroad mods like raised suspension, bigger tires, etc.

I had a 95 E36 M3 in the states, and gave it up to come to Thailand....

One of life's greatest regrets.

I would be very interested in working with someone that could build up an E36 that could perform the same as the E36 M3 and no, a simple badge will not do. This is a serious post. I would de-badge the car and not be a "poser." But I would like a clean E36 again, that climbs throught the rpm's and pulls & pulls like there is a bottomless pit of reserve power....

Ahhh that was a sweet car.

So if anyone can help, let me know.

hey thaiboxer, you are correct that to much power will produce to much torque steer, the thing is you will have to modify other parts to. if you check out civic in the states and japan, they got axels, lsd, drive shaft, moded trans box....etc...if you do mod all these parts you will have a reliable fast, good handling, with generally blistering preformance.

though if you want a quick car, that car still outrun most 2j cars like cefiors, bmw, benz then you can just drop a k20a (220hp na motor from the integra dc5) a few simple bolt ons, headers, induction kit, ecu ....will give you another what...30hp thats a quick car...of nearly 300hp per ton....but the power is still under control.

on my civic i even had a moded clutch and light weight flywheel, the thing is, because i had large 215/45/r17 tiers that i could have alot of grip rather then wheel spin. so simple things like this will make a huge difference. not to menation modification to the suspensions.

to, answer your other question thaiboxer, right now i have a mitusbishi triton 3.2gls a/t limited 4x4. and i am desperately looking for mods, ecu modes is a bit to simple...im looking for larger turbo, blow off, ecu, waste gate, (turbo kit) for it. and its hard....im looking to push it about 350hp to 400hp....but right now it is simple stock!!!!!!!!!! cash is always an issue when u get into the obsession of modifcations.

dakhar, as for your bmw.

their are generally 3 engine swaps thai's usually do with their bmw.

these are changing the motor to either one of these 3 generally:

1). 2jv vvti (320hp rating) (toyota supra engine.....3000cc twin turbo)-more circut preformance (less lag, two small turbos, 1 for low rpms, and another for higher rpm) 80-120,000chat

2). 1jz vvti (320hp rating)-(toyota supra engine.....2500cc single turbo)-more stright line preformance. (more lag due to one single turbo) 60-90,000bhat.

due to japanese regulations, these motors are ranked as 280hp but actually do produce more.

3). 1uz v8 engine (comes from the toyota range rover, or land rover....i cant recall) about 265or so hp.

all of these engines are easily to product alot of power. about 60-80,000bhat.

4). you could also go for the rb series *skyline...series or even sr (silvia series/sx)

the jz toyota engine can withstand upto 600whp on stock internals so the potential is very high, their are cars in thailand and the states that push alot more than 1000whp easily.

5). 3jz this engine is a two supra engines put togather....haha well ok, its basicly produces around 500hp you will have a 2jz or 1jz bottom cilinder half (depending if want a 3000cc bottom or a 2500cc) then either a 1jz or 2jz top half on the other.

so basicly it will run as 1jz bottom 2jz top (maxmize circuit preformance) or a 2jz bottom a 1jz top (and yours flyyyyyyyyying on the strights) these engines cost about 200,000bhat. if you get this engine, make sure the shop you get it done at, is veryyyyyyyy experinced. a shop i can recall of my head to have i think the most hp supra in thailand is MONZA Speed, which has a 1300whp fully striped, space frame, supra with the biggest fatest tiers ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted

OOOOOOh i nearly forgot (sorry for all these replies)

at MONZA speed, i met an english dued, and well he had an bmw, got a fully on wide body kit, and chucked an 850whp supra engine into his bmw. its got hugeeeeeeeeee brakes, tripple plate clutch. sounds like the crasiest beast!@

they are the ones to contact if you want to build up your bmw....to an absloute frankinstine!

Thanks Philipm for rundown on Thai swap options.

I'm not looking for top end performance, btw - I want to replace my diesel and convert to LPG. Due to the weight I need enough torque in low to mid ranges without any turbo lag to get the beast moving, I don't really care about high rpms and speeds over 150km/h.

Twin turbo 2JZ Gtte sounds like a choice, but it's also the most expensive engine, and it's for Supras, not for two ton SUV wannabies, and I won't be using even half of its potential.

How reliable are those 1JZ and 2Jz engines? Can they run everyday without any hickups? I don't have time to take my car to garage every two weeks because something went wrong, in fact I don't even have time to fix it myself (even if I knew how), not on weekdays anyway.

Are they for enthusiasts only?

Btw, is the OP still reading this?

AE86 TURENO Twin Cam

WHERE..???????????????????????????????

I WANT ONE OF THOSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dream car.... no kidding, ever since i've seen "Initial D" i want one of those, but NEVER saw one in Thailand....... except for my TINY remote controlled one (see picture), that one is smaller than the average cockroach but goes forward, backward, left and right and even has a "turbo" (if pressed during forward or backward it roughly doubles the speed).

But where can i get the REAL DEAL .. ??

<edit to add> someone mentioned the "winding road at Lampang" OMG i LOVE that piece of road!! Me and my boyfriend (as well as his mum) call it "The Snake" and whenever i get a chance to drive to Chiang Mai all the trip i am looking forward to THAT bit........ specially in deep night when i can use both lanes to my satisfaction (yup i am kind of a racer, not only on motorbikes)...... flying up there with my Volvo 460, clearly lacking horsepower (loaded with stuff for a two weeks holiday, me, my boyfriend, and most of the times his sister too) and the automatic constantly shifting between 3rd and 4th, i manage to go up there no meter below 110 KM/h and yes, i DO get my old FWD tank drifting, just a little but yeeeah i LOVE it :o Ooooh how much i want to take that piece of road under the wheels of an AE 86..........

Best regards.....

@ the OP

If you want you can have my car for 130k Baht - '94 Volvo 460 GLE, 2.0 inline-4, multipoint injection, 129 horsepower, completely stock except the "fart cannon" muffler. 4-Speed automatic. Runs on 15" wheels (185/55/15), tyres "Bridgestone" have less than 5,000 km on them. Car has 136,000 kilometers, engine runs like a clockwork (at 150,000 a Volvo is just run in!) and the overall condition is quite good, not showroom but good. Had two crashes (both on the left side, one a truck, one a motorbike) which only affected the bodywork on that side (no frame damage) and only three weeks ago got a brand new aircondition heat exchanger (or what ya call that? The radiator-like thing) because the old one had a leak.

Oh and it's got a Sony CD-radio too :o Colour's blue metallic.

Is it fast? Yes sir, everything over 100 is considered "fast" if you are hit by it at that speed. Haven't tested 0-100 but once had it up to 170 km/h which seems to be the max possible (4 am on the elevated tollway to Don Mueang). It's a VOLVO after all, they are not supposed to be fast but SAFE.

Runs excellent on Gasohol 95 by the way, been driving on that stuff since it became available here in Thailand, zero problems.

Best regards.....

Monza speed (Lad Phrao 101) with its weasel like Chinese boss is a rip off and the guy with the black BMW is a huge cash cow for them. Amongst the catalogue of disasters he has suffered at the hands of Monza a few years ago he bought two greddy T88 turbos at a cost of 120,000 baht and due to the ineptitude of the monkeys that fitted them they were both blown in a week, yet he was offered no compensation and continues using the place. That was shortly before he nearly killed a motorcyclist whilst driving at 340km/h and fleeing the scene whilst in a "questionable" state of sobriety, leaving the guy for dead in the road. He always bands around these big horsepower figures, but when I knew him the car had never been near a dyno. Mactec tuning is another one to avoid.

You say that a common conversion Thais use in their BMWs is the 1UZ (V8), I would disagree as I have only ever seen a couple of 1UZ conversions in old American cars and old Jaguars, but never seen one in a BMW.

Likewise I would disagree about the 1JZ-VVTi being a common swap, the VVTi is a single turbo producing 280 BHP (not 320), this engine has around 8 different ECU's and very limited tuning potential. By far and away the best value and ubiquitous swap here is the 1JZ-GTE twin turbo, 280 BHP and you can buy engine and box for as little as 25,000 baht. With a bigger turbo and bigger intercooler it can easily make 500BHP on stock internals.

Cheers

Thing is, we are not all 17 years old anymore.. The idea of driving a rude boyed up bodykitted shopping trolly (no offence intended, the pics show a nice one for the local scene I am sure) is well and truly in my past.

Why are there no old shape CRX's here ?? Had a VTEC one of them in my teens and it was fun tho I gave up on front wheel drive once I could start to handle a car. Would have thought for cheap fast asian made fun they would have been popular in that kind of segment.
