Yes I thought that when in town a few days ago I live in a bit of a village and worry the odd policeman will be enticed by the monetary returns of catching a falang on his way to the 7-11! -

Accident Wall Collapse at Pattaya Construction Site Leaves Four Workers Seriously Injured
Picture courtesy of Amarin. Four construction workers sustained serious injuries after a concrete wall collapsed onto them during a pile-driving operation at a large furniture store construction site near the railway road in the Soi Khao Talo area. The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 on 5 June. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre in Pattaya were swiftly dispatched to the scene following reports of a wall collapse with multiple casualties. Upon arrival, rescue workers discovered that a boundary wall belonging to a nearby residential property had caved in, falling into a 4-metre-deep foundation pit where workers were engaged in piling work. The collapse trapped four workers beneath heavy concrete debris. The injured include two Thai nationals and two Cambodian nationals, all of whom suffered severe injuries from the impact of falling rubble. Rescue personnel administered emergency first aid before rushing the victims to a nearby hospital. Mr Jesada, a fellow construction worker present at the site, recounted the terrifying moment. “The men were working in the pit while I was above ground. Suddenly, there was a loud crash like something heavy had fallen. When I looked down, I saw the wall had collapsed into the hole.” His account was corroborated by Mr Nirun, a backhoe operator working nearby. He explained, “I was digging near the pit when I heard the crash. I turned to see the wall had come down, burying the workers. I jumped in to help try to pull them out and called for more help immediately.” Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was caused by ground subsidence due to deep excavation work adjacent to the boundary wall. The site had no visible retaining structures to support the soil, which may have led to the earth shifting and pulling the wall down with it. Local civil engineering officers and Bang Lamung district officials have temporarily halted all construction activities at the site. An investigation has been launched.
