April 20, 200817 yr I need to get to Khammuang, Kalasin from Bangkok. I'm told it's near Somdet between Kalasin and Sakan Nakhon. I have looked at flights from Bangkok to Khon Kaen cost 3,850 baht, but how would i get to Khammuang from Khon Kaen airport? Are there buses or how much would taxi cost? I have also looked at flights to Sakan Nakon cost 5,800 baht. I know trian from Bangkok to Khon Kaen is cheaper option. Any suggestions. Thanks Tim
April 20, 200817 yr Can the people you are going to see arrange for a local guy to come and get you at the airport ? I reckon it would cost around 900/1000 baht (Maybe more now) If not, get yourself into KK from the airport, and get the bus to Mukdaharn. This goes to Kalasin then I believe through Somdet on the way to Muk. You could alight there and get a lift to your destination. Although looking at the map you would still have a distance to travel from Somdet. Maybe best to get to Kalasin then get one of the 'taxis' at the bus station to take you there, assuming no one can meet you at Kalasin or Somdet. Also, probably best to clarify what village it is within the amphor you need to visit. Totster
April 21, 200817 yr Actually Udon Thani is the closest at 120 kilometers. As far as I know Sakan Nakhon has no airport. It also appears that Kham Muang has no bus station. Your friend is going to have to help you with transportation.
May 6, 200817 yr There's one bus a day from Morchit bus station in BKK that goes direct to and terminates in Khammuang, arriving around 7 a.m. Makes the return journey at about 7.p.m. Nearest airport is Udon Thani but it's a 110 minute car journey from there to Khammuang assuming you could find a taxi willing to make the journey.
May 6, 200817 yr other option fly to udon thani and hire a car, lek car rental have good rep, when you get to your destination i am sure a car will be very handy, nothing worse than being stuck in the village without transport. you should get a good car or truck for around 1000 to 1200 baht a day.

I can confirm that there is definitely an airport at Sakhon Nakhon, I use it regularly when the flights to Nakhon Phanom do not match my schedule. PB Air are the airline you need, but at 3000 baht one way is quite expensive. Check out www.pbair.com for schedules. Best Regards Mr Conrad
