Hi Guys,

Please see the post below for further details. Already posted on the Health forum but all seem very expensive in BKK, Pattaya and in combination with a hotel for the missus and myself for the convalesecence period would leave me almost broke.

Anyone know of any good hospitals in Ubon/Korat/Issan that could do a hernia repair without too much expense? I'm thinking around the 50-60k mark as opposed to 100-120k. Any recommendations, hospitals and phone nos would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Wonder if anyone can help. I need a hernia repair, I know it is a Hernia because I had one before (on the other side). I am currently based in Vietnam and quite frankly don't trust the 'top' hospitals expertise in medical matters or the countrywide and industry wide practice of daylight robbery.

I am coming to Thailand, does anyone know what the process is to get a hernia repair done? I am planning to come back to Thailand on the 23/24/25th July and ideally would like everything done and be fit to travel back to Vietnam after about three weeks.

In the UK I was in and out in one day and needed a recovery time of about 10 days.

Does anyone know what the standard practice is in Thailand - from initial consultation to OP? Is it standard paractice to keep the patient in hospital for 5 days? How much does it cost?

Thanks for any suggestions

Hi Richie,

I live in Chaiyaphum, about 80 minutes north of Korat. I don't know about hernia ops but 3 days ago i had surgury in Chaiyaphum Ram Private Hospital. I had an egg sized fluid sac removed from just above one of my testicles, pretty close to where i guess you would have a hernia. I stayed one night in the hospital and my wife/baby were allowed to sleep in the room with me. The total cost, including medication and going back in 4 days to have stitches removed, was 20,020 baht. I have been told the recovery time for me should be 10 days but i am hoping to get back on my bike after 7.

Hotels in Chaiyaphum are cheap too. Rooms are 900 baht in the newish resort hotel in town, older hotels start around 400 baht.

Nidge.

Also give the Ubonrak hospital a try. I have been there a couple of times in the outpatients department and have a couple of farang friends had ops there and they have all spoken highly of the place. Dont know the number but if you do a google search Im sure you will find it.

In Khon Kaen:

University Hospital

Khon Kaen Ram

Ratchapruek Medical

State Hospital

There are more hospitals in Khon Kaen, but I only know something about the ones mentioned above.

Best bet I gues will be the Uni and state hospital

Reasonable prices, good services.

For example:

Cutting tonsils:

including 1 night stay in private room, including everything (mother could stay and sleep in the room on a good bed)

Ram hospital 42000 baht

Ratchapruek 26000 baht

State hospital 13000 baht

Make your own decision, however, KK university is very near!

I had mine done in January of this year at the Military Hospital in Korat for a very reasonable 7000 baht, I had to stay in for a couple of nights and go back a week later to get the stitches removed.

They did it the old fashioned way stitching it back together and not by inserting any mesh.

6 months on and I am very happy with the results, I have a very physical job that involves a lot of heavy lifting and shovelling and I have had no problems.

Don’t be put of by the low price the level of care I had was fantastic and I would recommend the hospital strongly.

The military hospital which I believe is called Suranari fort or ‘’Longbarn Khai’’ in Thai is near the centre of town on Thanon Phibun Lai-iat which is the road which heads to the Bueng Ta Lua lake.

My advice would be to go early morning.

Mickey,

The army hospital has no connections with the government hospital, All the doctors and nurses are all members of the army and very well trained and equipped.

I have a phone number from the back of my card which is 044-273370-5

There are private rooms so your wife could stay with you but it will be hit and miss if there are any free.

As the hospital is very close to the centre of Korat city there are plenty of hotels near by.
