In the late afternoon of 24th October Pattaya Police were alerted to a foreign man who was attempting to commit suicide in Soi Beoukeow. On the top floor of Boeukeow court in front of room no. 401, Mr. Colin Wasson aged 49 from Ireland was sitting on an overturned empty bucket of paint and begun to injure himself with a flick knife. Before this he set light to 15,000 Baht’s worth of Bank notes and threw them over the balcony. The blood-soaked man appeared to be intoxicated and was telling nearby medical staff that he could no longer live without his sweetheart who had apparently left him 2 months before the incident. He demanded whisky be sent up to him, officers used this opportunity to place sleeping pills inside the whisky bottle in an attempt to stop him injuring himself. Eventually, the man gave up his suicide attempt and was taken to the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital for treatment to his wounds. The Irish Embassy was informed of the case and may well recommend a psychiatric report be undertaken before they allow him to return home. Cheers for that PCN.

Or is it again something to do with the thai mafia and the police being lazy? coz from experience this is not normal behavior of a farang that I would hear from. so I am getting a bit confused. Siripop Sukkasi, Pattaya criminal investigation officer received a report that a foreigner was trying to cut his own throat at his 4th floor apartment on Soi Bua Khao. A team of police raced to the scene investigate. At the location of the drama, police found a foreigner, dressed in a pair of shorts, sitting on a paint container on the balcony of the fourth floor apartment. In his right hand was a 30cm knife and he was trying to cut his own throat. Blood oozed from the self inflicted wounds as he also tried to slit his wrists. The foreigner was also seen burning 15,000 baht in cash, throwing it off the balcony and muttering that money had no meaning anymore, since his girlfriend left him. Police tried to calm the man down. Only after 30 minutes of talking, in which police handed the distressed man some cool water, did he lay down the knife and stop cutting himself. The foreigner, an Irishman, was taken to hospital for treatment as he had lost a substantial amount of blood. Unfortunately some guys become so captivated with the place that they cant bear to leave and go back to their drab miserable lives back home. Alternatively they become so enamoured with a girl and overstay visas, when the money starts to run out the girls leave. Suddenly they have no girl, no money and trouble with the immigration. IMO This would account for most farang suicides in Thailand. Most other deaths are caused by getting drunk and being stupid.
