I was under the (wrong?) impression that many over the counter medications were priced the same at many pharmacies in BKK, as if in a price cartel.

However in trying to find a cheaper supply for Crestor 10 mg cholesterol lowering drug I have found the following price range. (price for 1 box 28 tablets 10 mg)

BNH Hospital 2212 baht

Silom road pharm. 1700 baht

Boots 1560 baht

Rama IV pharm 1100 baht

So it pays to shop around.

The Rama IV pharmacy is between Silom and Surawong roads opposite Chulalongkorn hospital very near to the old pedestrian overpass stairs (not the new overpass near Silom Road MRT).

Hope this is of interest.

There's a few pharmacies in the vicinity of Victory Monument that sell medication for about half what it costs in the hospital (I presume that there is a huge mark up in the hospital, that's why they are so keen to give you a shopping bag of pills for the most trivial thing).

If the Rama IV is the place I believe it is a wholesale drug store with most customers being other small drug stores. It is indeed cheaper than most places.

I find it more cost effective to buy the 20 mg version and split the tablet. Will be curious to know what your local costs are for 20mg?

I am still not sure if split Crestor tablets are as effective as whole tablets.

See my thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Splitting-Co...ts-t198015.html

According to the cardiac surgeon I see at Bumrungrad, this is not a problem or even an issue. Coatings serve a number of purposes but the prime one is to protect the ingredients and the secondary one is to prevent the often bad taste. Time release of the ingredients is a totally different topic.

I checked out the price of 20 mg Crestor and they go for 1600 a box (at the pharmacy nearest to the overpass stairs Rama IV).

Have you found them any cheaper?

That's an outstanding price, my best BKK price thus far is 1,900. In Phuket I can't find much under 2,400. There's a small pharmacy on Silom that gives excellent prices on Plavix and the like, cheaper than anywhere else in the country that I've found but his prices on Crestor are as mentioned.
