I am married to a thai lady whom i met on holiday whilst in thailand 14 months ago. We got married in Bangkok 9 months ago. I secured a visit visa for her in January and she was able to stay with me in the UK for a number of months. This visa expired in early July and she has since gone back to thailand.

My problem is that i would like to obtain a settlement visa for her but have eaten into my savings considerably with all the flights etc. I estimate that if i apply for the visa in august i will have around £2500 to my name and suitable rented accomodation.

I have a steady job as a security guard with income of around £1100 pm, but only started the job in April. My outgoings from this is are only around £400, so in my opinion i will easily be able to support both my wife and I. Can you foresee problems with this application? I have visions of them saying I cannot support her. Are there any rules stating minimum assets and income?

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Dave

You need to provide evidence of being able to provide for yourselves without recourse to public funds, you appear to be able to do that.

Remember, out goings will reduce if she is here, allegedly, no holiday and flight costs to manage.

In terms of maintenance, the general rule of thumb is that your income should be at or above the rate you would otherwise receive if you were in receipt of income support. For a married couple, that's currently about £93.00 per week. Your income would therefore appear to meet this benchmark.

Scouse.
