I have been in Thailand about 6 years now and have a business and house etc, I have been with my fiancée nearly 2 years and maybe next year look at getting married. My parents back in the UK are having there 50th wedding anniversary soon and I would like to take my fiancée with me as she can meet most of my family in one go! Maybe go for 3 weeks. We have photo’s etc and we have a lovely house together but will that be enough to get a visa as this is her first time to the UK, any help or advice please!

She will need to have enough funds to cover the trip, or a sponsor who can.

If you are staying with relations, a letter of invitation stating suitable accommodation, if staying in alternative circumstances, suitable funds again.

You appear to have good reasons to return, but has your Fiancée? Does she own part of the business or work in it, or any other business? if so a letter stating a granting of the holiday and a position to return to.

Other strong links to return, her own place, land, strong family ties? all should be stated.

3 weeks is good, not too short and certainly not too long, if you receive the visa, keep to this time scale.

Evidence of the relationship, letters, e-mails, photos are good, hopefully reciprocal from both sides, not just from one to the other.

Just a few pointers

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice mossfinn and i can understand the reasons for them wanting a reason for her to return but she does not have her name on the house /car /business etc. When we marry next year most of my family will not be able to come to thailand and this would of been the best way to meet but i need to go back before the end of september, how long does the process take ?.

I only realy have photo's and some flight ticket stubs from vietnam and phuket from last year and i plan to stay with my parents so will an e-mail invitation do ? also i will be paying for everything.

Applications are processed within just 3 to 5 working days, but it takes a lot more time than that to compile all the paperwork you'll need to put together a strong case.

Having a job for her to come back to and an employment record would help. Does she work?

She has not worked for just over a year now which was my choice so maybe its not looking so good !!, taking care of the house & garden etc is a full time job for her.

To be honest Dhali, youve got a buisness here and been here near 6 years, youve got a house [with a book?] and a fiancee of 2 years who looks after the property ect,

So you have every reason to return, so why not download the uk visitor visa forms and also get a flight interary to post off with the completed forms, there is no harm in trying and if you need a contact for flight itinerary free of charge and no obligation, pm me.

That is excatly what i done last year and no problems.

Hope it works out for you too, Lickey..

Nothing to do with your problem but before I was married to my Thai wife I was working in Trinidad and I had her come out to stay!Told her what to say at Heathrow"I am in transit"),after a discussion she was allowed to get her flight to Trinida .Perhaps I was a little nieve when I said you can get a tourist visa on arrivalas I did!Well,Trinida immigration were not amused with her arrival and I was hauled in to explain what she was doing there, just happened to be the same officer who gave me my visa!Eventually all sorted and we had a nice time(I was working there!!)At the end of my contract we went to the British embassy in Port of Spain and the lady there couldnt have been nicer and she was given a visa for the UK!!Next time was working in Prague but we where married then and again the embassy there were great so dont give up it can be done!

Thanks Lickey for that tip regards flight interary have got one sorted already ....

Dhali,

Your fist port of call should be the web-site of the UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok http://www.vfs-uk-th.com/

You will find information on all the subjects you need to cover; application, letter of invitation, sponsor's role and many other relevant subjects.

Once you start the process of getting your documentation together, you'll begin to understand how much is involved and what needs to be done.

Good luck.

Do i need to make an appointment or can i just turn up with documents and wait ??

You can just turn up with the payment and the completed form. Remember that your Mrs will have to go with you, because you won't be allowed into the actual visa centre youself. Only the person applying for the visa is actually allowed into the visa centre, you'll have to wait outside.
