Orphanage Running Out Of Food And Cash

Featured Replies

I was having a look through google for a local orphanage after reading a post from a guy in Pattaya who was sponsoring a child to the tune of 1000 baht a month (at the end of the day a 1000 baht isn't a lot to most farangs). Came across this article from Samui Express dated 26th July 2008

An orphanage which looks after 137 street children in an area near the Burmese border is in dire need of help.

Childlife in Mai sai is an orphanage put up to help victims of human trafficking and is dependent on donations -- food, goods and cash -- for its survival.

Last month, the orphanage ran out of money to buy food and had to feed its wards with fish from the canal and wild vegetables from nearby farms.

Donations are being accepted at Art & Craft Cafe in Nathon and at the Samui Town Centre in Bophut, and at Tamarind Springs in Lamai. Those who wish to transfer cash donations may call the orphanage directly at 053-732 947 or 08-19504723 or Shelley at 081-892-1180.

Shelley says she learned about the Childlife situation from Andrea, one of the performers of Global Mala, which was taking a group of fire jugglers around Thailand visiting underprivileged children in refugee camps, orphanages and temples.

Founded in 1999 by Mr. Guljohn Jeamrum – or Khun Ngaow -- Childlife is a non-government organization out to help displaced children. It is located in Mae Sai in northern Thailand.

I just thought something was seriously wrong to have to resort to fishing the local canal to feed hungry children. I've edited the article
