Hello,

Im currently live in Chiang Mai, but my girlfriend who is russian, is currently visiting me and we decided to go to Koh Samui. She is going home on 7th of september. The problem is now that her 30 day visa on arrival is expiring on the 30th and we then have 8 days in which she is without visa.

Does any of you have suggestions on how to best solve this? As far as I can tell there is the following possibilities:

1) Do a visa run with Julie, Herberts or that last one, "fire" something. In that event, how can I reach these guys? I have looked in vain for a website... We would prefer to use an agency which have a pickup at our hotel or at a nearby 7-eleven (as suggested in some other post). This is because we just arrived and I really do not know my way around Samui yet, so to meet somewhere on the mainland is a bit inconvenient to say the least.

2) Dont do anything and pay the 500 baht pr day fine for overstay. I am a bit worried about this one, as we will be going from Samui to BKK by plane and from BKK, she will go back to Moscow. I dont want to take the chance that she is stopped in either Samui departure or BKK arrival, and put in jail by immigration or something like that :-)

3) Go to thai immigration in Surat Thani and get an extension for 8 days. I dont know if this is even possible?

I hope someone here can help us either get in touch with Julies or Herberts, or shed some light on the other two (or possibly other) alternatives we might have.

Thanks a lot in advance!

i don't belive she'll get the extension as they require a return ticket within the 7 days, but she can try it costs nothing.

If you got a return ticket, which I'm sure you do, get it changed for 1 day earlier and get the extension, NO reason to blow a day on a run for 1 week, håber du fortsår det er det best!

Russians do not get the 30 day visa exempt status but get a visa on arrival. As far as I am aware, it is not possible to extend these visas but you can ask at Immigration outside of Nathon in Koh Samui.

We went to the immigration today which was unfortunately closed (only open monday to friday). Anyway we went across the road to Herberts visa run and the guy in there informed us, that we could get an extension for the remaining days, even on a "visa-on-arrival". So problem solved :-), we will get down there on Monday to get the extension. Many thanks for the tip!

hopefully for them, the officer in samui doesn't refuse extension if you're on overstay, be sure to have a pack of cigarettes and offer one to the officer, he likes that.
