MattFS218 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I purchased a car from one of those auto auctions, and am trying to get it transfered into my girlfriends name. The car is registered in Nakorn Si Tammarat, and the Pattaya DLT says we need to go to Chonburi, re-register the car in Chonburi, and then we can transfer the ownership to my girlfriend. Is this the correct process? They said they charge 500 baht for each 100,000 worth of value in the car to transfer from Nakorn Si Tammarat to Chonburi. Alternativily, could we just drive down to Nakorn Si Tammart and get the car transfered? Is there any laws stating that the transfer needs to take place within a certain time period? Also, if we were to register the car in Chonburi, I'm told we would need an address in Chonburi to register the car at. What is the purpose of this address? My girlfriend's parents are from Nongkhai, and obviously I don't want to drive up there to transfer the car. Would using a friends address in house registration papers in Chonburi work OK? What are the downsides? Thanks.

I think you need an address to get a residence certificate at the immigration and a receipt that the car is fully payed then you can have the car registrated at the transportation office in Chonburi. Maybe you need a Non-immigrant visa too....not for sure. There is more people at this messages board that have more knowledge than me so i hope you get all information thats needed for you registration. Regards!
sbk Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 OP wants to transfer it into his girlfriends name. I am assuming she is still registered at her parents house in Nong Khai?
MattFS218 Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 OP wants to transfer it into his girlfriends name. I am assuming she is still registered at her parents house in Nong Khai? Yes, she is registered at her parents house in NongKhai. The car is registered in Nakorn Si Tammarat. Is it really necessary to transfer the license plate to chonburi? When we do this, what is the use of the residency proof we provide? She has a friend who owns a house in Chonburi, and she is willing to sign, but I'm confused as to why this is necessary.
