JimmyGreaves Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 How many days will it take me to obtain a vietnam tourist visa in BKK and how much does it cost? Regards John
Explorer Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 do Brits need to apply a tourist visa to VN in the first place? Explorer
Axel Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Plan for one working day. Usually apply in the morning and latest pick up next day in Bangkok. Price not sure, should be around Baht 2-2500. And yes, Brits do need a visa for VN. Strongly advise for first time visitors to carry as well an extra p/picture.
Explorer Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Thanks for clearing it out for me Axel, i think coz i hold a different passport that doesn't require me to apply any tourist visa before visiting VN. And i thought that would apply for the rest also. Looks like i'm wrong ,sorry. Anyway jflundy, you might want to give the VN embassy in Bangkok a ring on this matter. 83/1 Wireless Road Bankok Tel (02) 251-7201 Explorer
Axel Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Yes, Explorer, if you are holding a passport from a country that is visa-exempted, you do not need a visa. Recently e.g. Japan was added, up to 15 days stay visa not required. Thai p/port-holders up to 30 days. Believe you are holding a passport from a visa exempted country. UK and EU-passport-holders do need a visa and following para applies: Chapter 2: Entry, Exit, and Transit Article 4: 1. Foreigners entering or exiting Vietnam must hold a passport or have valid papers in lieu (together hereinafter referred to as passport) and must have a visa issued by an authorized State agency of Vietnam, except in cases of visa exemption.
donna Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I think you can get the fast one in a day, or the regular service in around 3-5 days. Your local travel agent can do it all for you.
JimmyGreaves Posted November 29, 2004 Author Posted November 29, 2004 A friend told me I need to give exact dates of entry and exit. Is this true? I hold a UK Passport. Regards John
Axel Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Give roughly acccurate dates for entry and exit, as per your travel plans. Forms can be obtained at the Bangkok embassy. A form looks like that: http://www.travisa.com/Vietnam/vietnanvisaform.htm Once the visa is granted you should arrive within it's validity. Btw: Usually the visa will allow you to enter through HCMC or Hanoi-airports (Tan Son Nhut or Noi Bai) Should you plan to use other entry points by land or sea you must tell this in your application.

I'm planning to fly BKK to HCMC and then pick up a ticket from Hanoi to Vientiane when I get up to the Hanoi area.
