I had a mishap in the carpark this morning. I turned too sharply and scraped the side of my Camry against the corner of a wall. Now my lovely black paint job has an area of around 20cm long and 10cm high with horrible scratch marks.

From what I can tell, there is no denting or damage to the body, and it's also confined to one panel behind the rear front door.

I have full insurance of course, but am loathe to use it unless it's expensive. Besides, there is a 3000 baht excess.

Does anyone have any idea what a respray and fixup on this should cost me as a guideline?

What's a rear front door? Sounds like something you'd find on a katoey rather than a camry. :o

Hi Bendix,

If you bring it to the dealer thas has B&P, you will pay around 3500 THB.

Independed shop will do it for about 3000 THB.

Some shops can offer same day service, you just have to ask for it.

I took my car to a paint shop and had the whole car resprayed except the two front wings. They did an excellent job and only charges 9500 baht. For a small area that you're talking about, in black it shouldn't cost more than a couple of thou max, unless you live in Pattaya where they may try it on a bit. Shop around until you find some place that looks ' trustable. '

You have to choice the shop. If its a professioal paintshop, company with spray boot and expensive location at sukhumvit road for example, you will pay more. Such kind of Shop have many expenses, for the rent, staff, maybe even taxes, etc.. If you go in a family owned paintshop, like "coconutgarden type" where they stretch accident cars between 2 trees, they do it for 2'k

Best is to ask your Insurance Company for the address of there repair shop near you...

No need to claim, just use an Insurance Company Repair Shop, will do a 1st class job private for cash

Maybe you should just add a few more dents... gives people the impression that you are not going to give way to them. Especially those terrible moving walls.

Thanks for the input on this. I took it to Vikroms Garage on Suk 15 this morning. Very good facility, by the looks of it, with lots of quality cars being worked on, including a couple with diplomatic plates. A good sign, I think. One of the guys speaks good English.

They've quoted me 3000 and will have it back by tomorrow night. I can't complain at that.

Not even worth troubling the insurance company for . .

Ah, you met "The Doctor"

He is a nice guy, knows a lot about this industry, and indeed a good quality shop.

Please give your opinion of quality of work when job complete. I have the same type scratch, but on a bumper, and have been looking for good shop that can do proper job of matching paint.

good thing its black...the color is easy to match up

i usually buy cars in colors that allow me to fix these kind of problems myself.

2500-3000 bat sounds about right for black colored paint.
