:o Hey.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but i've been searching all day and still can't make any sense of it all!

I am british, 21 years old and this is my first experience with visas.

I just got back from Thailand 2 weeks ago, where i was on a 30 day stamp on arrival. I wish to return to Thailand in 4 weeks time for 9 months (maybe longer - but this would take me till my uni placement starts). My problem is - is this possible? I will be living off savings so won't be working, my savings arent enough to pay for study and i can't afford to buy a house!

Do i need to get a 90 day, then keep doing visa runs? Does anyone know how long it takes for a thai visa to be processed in england via post? I live in suffolk and London is quite far away on public transport! Is there a limit on how many visa runs i can do? I'm unclear wherever i have to just visit immigration, or wherever i have to actually leave the country (don't understand about re-entry permits!). Also, would the fact i have already used a 30 day stamp limit me in some way with the visas i am now entitled too? I am so so sorry if all this seems really dumb to you guys and i'm sure your bored of hearing these questions over and over.. but i'm in a real pickle and would really appreciate your help!

Thankyou so much for your time.

Natasha Jones.

ps. Is it possible to rent an apartment/bungalow/house/anything in Koh Phangan for around 9000Baht per month? I know it's a little off subject sorry!

You can get 2 or 3 entry tourist visa. On each entry you have 60 days and then can be extended for an additional 30 days at immigration, After 90 days you will have to make a border run and use another entry on your visa. If 3 entry is issued with a 6 month validity you could get almost 9 months from it. Check with consulate about validity date of visa they issue.

The following link will take you to page on the Thail embassy website that has a list of consulates in the UK. Hull has been reported to be the best and you can do it by mail.

Your previous entry has no affect.

Can't help you on your last question. There is a local forum for Koh Phangan. You could post your question there.

Hey

Thanks for your speedy reply! I'm just so nervous about booking my flights in case my visa won't cover the time i book for! So i would get my 3 entry visa from Hull, head to immigration after 60 days for a 30 day extension, then after 30 days i do a border run and repeat the process? Sorry to put it into lamens but i want to be 100% sure as i have nobody to bail me out if it goes wrong! If a visa has a 6 month validity, wouldn't it expire before my 9 months is up? Or do i get that 6 months, then 90 days on top of that?

Thank you so much for your reply! This is the only major problem i'm having that is stopping me booking my flights and returning!

The visa would expire but if you do the last border run just before the experation date you will still get a another 60 day permit to stay. The experation of visa has no affect on the permit to stay once in the country.

Check to see if you can get a ticket with an open return that way you are not pinned down to a return date. You could also get a one way ticket. With a visa you don't have to have a return ticket. If you have a round trip ticket and your last permit to stay date is before return date on ticket you could do a border run and get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Hull will issue a Multi Entry Non O Visa . This will give you unlimited entries for a year. Each entry will give you up to 90 days. Meaning every 90 days you go over the border and come back again. This may suit you better. Up to you. The cost is £100. When filling the form in give "Visiting friends and family" as a reason.

Apply by mail and your passport will be back within 5 days.

Yes you should be able to rent something for less than 9,000 Baht a month.
