I have some bike parts I need chromed that I want to look good for more than the usual six months.

Does anyone have any contact details for a Bangkok company that does quality chrome plating? Somewhere I can send up my bike parts and they will send back when finished.

Hi

check your PM

Why keep it a secret? We'd all like to know a shop that can do acid dip, copper, nickle and then chrome. Share with us so we all have shiny bikes.

Hi

Not strange at all, my friend have a bike shop here in Phuket, i hand the stuff to him and he does allllllll the work for me, i did not know anything about what shop he used, and the work i have had done is very good so far.

If anyone needs more reassurance they could visit the shop and see for themselves. I love doing that. Often you can get some good tips about the different processes. Like before powder coating a passivated zinc dip will make the pc bond so much better than on bare metal.

Personally I would find it hard to belief that somebody in Phaholyothin has a "legal" license to do chromium electroplating, more likely he is a agent for one of the larger factories on the border of Bangkok.

Agreed HD, and I want to find something closer to me as I live in Non Tha Buri which is about 30-45 minutes north of Bangkok. Would rather go to the shop itself rather than have someone take it where I can't see what they're doing or the work they've done before. I also figure it's got to be cheaper than paying a middle man to take it in for you.

Right now, I would even be happy to find someone that can do a good job of polishing.

I've got a quote from another thread from the past for one near Korat. Sorry for not referencing the original author, but I don't know who it was. Here's the quote:

A while back a similar request was posted and reference was made to a shop near Sikhiu (west of Khorat). I took the journey down from Chiang Mai with a set of 4 in 2 pipes off of my Honda that had been buggered up twice by a chrome shop in CNX. They cleaned everything up and plated with chrome that seems to be harder than decorative chrome. No pealing and the pipes are not showing any bluing after three months of riding. The shop is located in a yellow building about 2-3 kilometers east of the Sikhiu exit on the north side of superhwy #2. Tele# 044-336443.

That would be me.

Since my post and quite a few more kilometers the chrome is starting to pop again. Not much but it's still happening. I had an American who's quite familiar with plating look at the damaged area. He reckoned they did not acid dip the pipes before plating and did not use a copper-nickel-chrome step by step in their process. My conclusion is that if the item to be chromed is not used in a high temperature environment then you may be OK. Still the three metals need to be used for a proper plating. According to Lai at Saengchareon Plating, they do the acid dip and the three metal application.

That is very true. If a previous coating has been applied acid pickling is the best way to remove it. Also polishing sometimes before the next step. And sometime on black steel after welding, the little balls of splatter need to be removed. I made some bollards a coupla years ago which where zinc dipped then powder coated and the splatter I missed showed up! Bugger!

I am new to this forum and what I am asking is a bit strange, I am a jeweler from the US and have only worked in precious metals, however I am working on a new collection based on recycling I am using materials like iron brass stainless etc, my question is I am wanting to use rusted metal in this collection but of course I need to be able to seal it or coat it or plate it i am not sure, I want to maintain the look of the rust on the metal but I dont want it to irritate the skin, I have used a spray laquer in the past and this works to some degree but bringing this to market I will need something more stable any suggestions????
