Visa Run From Kuchinarai (near Mukdahan)

I'm staying near Kuchinarai, 80km from Mukdahan. Can I just go across the bridge to Laos to get my visa?

What are the options I have here and costs?

I will be going down South in a couple of weeks and can get it done in Ranong but that would probably take all day where as here Laos seems close do is popping over the border an option?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :o

If all you need to do is a quick Visa Run / out and back in, then Mukdahan is a easy shot.... short bus ride from the Bus Station in town to the Bridge, I think it was 1500 baht + a photo for the Lao visa, again, an easy in and out, bus back to the Bus Station in town and you are done...

It gets a bit more complicated if you are going to the Thai Consulate to obtain a longer term visa... Possibly others could fill you in better in that case...

You mention Ranong so that tells me you just want to leave and re-enter.

As the previous post said you can go from bus station in Mukdahan. If you have your own transportation you can park at the bridge and buy a ticket for bus (was 50 baht) to the left just before immigration. From either location ticket will be for all the way into Savannakhet. It is as said before 1500 baht for visa and one photo. Also on the form for visa there is place for the name of a hotel rather than leaving it blank use Hotel Mekong to save anwering questions. There are some other small charges for immigration.

I suggest you ride the bus all the way into town and then get next bus back from there. Bus will wait for you to get your visa on the way in and on the way back for immigration and etc.

Take a quick look at recent entries on Isaan and general topics forums. I also suggested using Mukdahan as I did for 5 years but some posters say they are not as helpful as before. But dam_n site nearer than Ranong (1500 lms).

I just placed a post about the Mukdahan staff. But this belongs to the office in town. When you make a border run so you pass the bridge. The staff there seems to be different. Two of my friends made the border run at Mukdahan many times without any problems.

Seems there are two things being discussed here -

1. Simple visa run for those who can get a 30 visa exempt entry, a valid tourist visa that can give 60 days and a non imm visa tha can give 90 days. This is a case of just going across the bridge and buying a Lao visa and then coming back into Thailand.

2. Someone requiring a tourist visa or an Non Imm visa from the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet.

In the first example it is very straight forward and no different from any other border as long as you meet the requirements.

In the second example there are reports of the consulate being quite strict. You certainly will not get a Multi Non Imm from experience, not sure about tourist visas.

Can I make 90 days TM 47 procedure at the Immigration at Mukdahan Friendshipbridge?

Any Informations?

Thanks

No

You will have to go to the immigration office in the city.

Can't give you the exact location of office because it has been some time since I was there.

I can only say that it is about a block off the river near where the boat dock and market it is.

You can mail it in if you want procedure is at following link to immigration website you can also download the form just click the download form button at top of page. Note procedure says 5 baht postage it is now 10 baht. Many people send it EMS instead of registered mail.
