November 4, 200817 yr I love it. whatever it is. Perfect for pottering down to the beach in, can I order a red one ? It was the inspiration for a car that appeared in a lot of short movies and I think it was usually a red one. But not exactly like this:
November 5, 200817 yr Author '' It does look a bit like a FiatToppolino, but the rear wheel covers seem wrong...
November 5, 200817 yr This one seems to be moving a bit slowly so a couple more good hints are: It was based on an Austin 7 chassis It somehow evolved into the WWII U.S. military jeep
November 5, 200817 yr Author After much searching (plus far too many clues..... .) It's an American Bantam circa 1938 - 1941
November 6, 200817 yr Here's one to keep it going until Mr.Hippo gets back. Sorry but I missed this one. It is a 1955 Sunbeam Talbot 90 series 3 that usually had a column change 4 speed gearbox with a Laycok overdrive on second, third and 4th gears. I had one in 1967 and blew the gearbox out. I scrapped the car as I couldn't afford the £30 for another gearbox I scrapped the car. I loved it when it was running. I remember one time that a brake pipe rusted through and I found that out when I tried to stop in a hurry. Lucky there was a friendly hedge close by. :D
November 7, 200817 yr Author Old Croc you've been causing me a bit of worry, I have stared at red convertibles 'til I'm blue in the face and green with envy. I have looked at :- : Duesenbergs : Cords : Auburns : Mercurys : Talbot Lagos and I'm still not sure, the closest I have seen is a :- : 1948 Cadillac Series 62, 3 position convertible coupe by Saou If it's not this, (and I have a feeling it's not) then I'm stumped !!!
November 7, 200817 yr Ok Ken, seeing you gave me the Bugatti without having to narrow it down, I'll give you the Cadillac. It's a 1937 Cadillac V-16 Hartmann Cabriolet.
November 7, 200817 yr Thank You Sir. Here's a rather hard one I think. Tatra? Not being a Tatraphile, I do not know if it had a rear mounted V8. Ed Cole made a rear engine Cadillac V8 once, but his production rear engined models, all 1.7 million of them, were Corvairs.
November 7, 200817 yr Author Correct PB, it was in fact a Tatra T87 C.1948. Made in what was then Czechoslovakia. Have a go.
November 7, 200817 yr Too hard for me to post with my dial up. How about a Facel Vega or a rare TVR or a Crosley Hotshot or a Monteverdi? Hispano Suiza, a Pegaso by Saotchik, a limited Brooks Stevens run? Oh well, here is a red convertible.
March 13, 200917 yr Author A blue car... It looks like a modern version of something from the Chevrolet, any clues ?
