If I am in Thailand on a 30-day stamp when the 6-month period ends, does a new 6-month period start while I am still in country, or will it start with my next entry?

I'm not sure that question was clearly stated, so lets say I enter Thailand Jan 1 on a 30-day stamp. The 6 months would end June 30. If I enter on June 20, get stamped in for 30 days, and stay until July 19 - will a new 6-month period start with my next entry?

Thanks...

No you will only get 10 days.

90 days on visa exempt stamp over 180 days.

See..I knew I wasn't being clear. What if I had only used 40 days when I entered Thailand on June 20. The 6-month period ends June 30. So I'm still safely below the 90 days, but are the days from July 1 - July 19 "free days" - not counted against any 6-month period? The new 6-month period will start when I next re-enter following my July 19 departure?

If you used only 40 days out of the 90 prior to June 20 you could enter for 30 days.

Your next entry after June 30 would start a new 6 month period.

I guess you could call the days after the June 30 free days.

I've studied this problem since Oct, 2006 when they changed the rules. No matter what anyone on here tells you, don't believe them because in reality nobody knows for sure how they enforce this rule.

Most people who want to stay for 6 months or more get tourist visas BEFORE their 90 day allowance has expired just to be safe.

This "6-month block theory" started out when some immigration officers stamped some unfortunate punters with some unpredictable periods of stay back in about March 2007.

Pervious to that most believed in a rolling 6-month period.

Personally I don't believe in the "block" theory at all. I believe they count back 6 months from when you enter and make their decision on that.

My reason for not believing this "block" theory is that if they used it as understood then it should be possible to get up to 6 months straight on 30 day visa-exempt entries when one 6-month period is ending and a new one is beginning. I really don't think there is any chance of this actually happening in reality.

Anyway you cut it, you're at the mercy of the Immigration officer on duty on the day you arrive. His/her decision is final.
