Hi :o

As i'm in the process of getting a new D-MAX *some time soon* i would like to know what to exopect when the BS starts coming in. But from the beginning:

Saw the truck, the brand new "Platinum" version, at a show at Central Bangna. Talking to that dealer we (boyfriend and me) were told of all the extras we would get as freebies, basically the same another dealer had offered on the (now outdated) GoldSeries version, and even leather seats thrown in. So we agreed to that one.

Contract was made, financing applied for and approved, and we were in for delivery by this week Friday.

NOW the dealer starts rolling in the excuses! First, for the wheel liners (those plastic things inside the wheel well, meant to protect the metal from stones and subsequent rust). The excuse: Stones can get stuck between the plastic and the metal and cause rust! We insisted on having them fitted anyway.

Today then - next "problem", the side steps. "They make the car wider, it may be a problem when parking at the sidewalk, they can get scratched". We insisted on having them fitted anyway.

An hour leather, final excuse (so far!): The leather seats. "The shop is out of stock with leather in that colour" (standard black). But we can have the truck on Friday, but would have to bring it in again next Monday and take it back, seats fitted, by next Wednesday? They know pretty well that nobody would do such a weird thing of taking a car for a couple of days only to return it for another three days (specially knowing that my boyfriend has to "observe" specific days and times for delivery, as dictated by the family fortune teller!!) The next "lucky" possible delivery date would be Saturday a week later - on which i'll be on a visa run! And i sure want to see the car before signing the delivery.

Now my question: Are they seeking ways not having to fit the "freebie" accessories by creating artificial delays in the hope we (the customer) will take the truck without them? Or could there REALLY be a shortage "of black leather" (which i think is BS because the Mu7 comes with those seats standard, i don't think they have them specially made for the D-MAX)? Does the dealer really try to prevent future problems (wheel liners, side steps)?

The sales guy (NOT a girl!) is very nice and seems genuine, which is why i'm surprised that these issues come up now, three days before supposed delivery.

Has anyone recently bought a D-MAX and had similar experiences?

Many thanks for replies.

Kind regards.....

I not sure about the other problems, but fitting the leather seats takes max 2-3 hours :o - if they work slow. I bought a aftermarket set for a vigo a while ago and watched the guy installing it. 90min everything was ready.

Good Luck...

I bought a D Max 4x4 GT and grey leather seats were fitted standard,as was the Kenwood DVD player&alloys. Free extra's included load liner, undersealing(very Good idea),Bull bars(rubbish),Security equipment,Tints, wind deflectors plus other bits. The brand new "Platinum" version,as you call it seems to me to be yet another limited edition that is no different from the average DMax.

I think you are being taken for a ride.

When we bought ours 18 months ago the dealer tried to convince the missus (and thus me as well) that the factory was not making any blue ones and was only making brown ones. Needless to say I told him (through the missus) to treat us as grown ups !
